I'm calling you a liar, Sir/Madam.

I know there are people called Kardashians, and one of them is Kim. I couldn’t pick Kim out in a line-up (I would have bet she was a blonde, but according to Post #30, she is a brunette). Bruce/Caitlin Jenner is involved with them, but I don’t know (or care) how.

Same thing with Taylor Swift, although I know she is a pop star. I may have seen her perform on TV, but I wasn’t paying attention if I did. I know none of her songs. I am not sure I could pick her out in a line-up, either. I would assume she has blonde hair and is white, but that would be it. If you stuck her in a line-up with nothing but African American women (or nothing but men), I think I could do it, but throw in a couple of reasonably attractive white women, then all bets are off.

I am over 50.

If I listen to anything on the radio other than NPR, it’s either a college station or some other non-commercial station. If they played Taylor Swift on NPR, I doubt I would notice; it wouldn’t register on my radar.

I know who she is in kind of the same way (and for the same reason) I know who The Situation is. When I get home from work or when I’m patrolling the house on a particularly bad insomniac evening you know what I catch the kids watching? Jersey Shore, KUWTK, maybe Ridiculousness (if I’m lucky). I guess the interwebs have all but killed scrambled porn.

So, the name is familiar, and I understand there is some association with Ms. Jenner. But beyond that I have no idea why they’re famous, what they do for money, or what sorts of shenanigans they get up to that would warrant a TV show. Perhaps they used to work with Honey Boo Boo and they got their own spinoff? Are you suggesting I should know more than “Kim Kardashian is a rich lady who has a reality TV show about her”?

As for Taylor Swift, I may have heard her music (Wife2.0 is a big fan) but I couldn’t tell you anything she sings. Now if you try & tell me you don’t know who Lux Interior or Captain Sensible are then you, sir, are the liar.

That answers the question of whether he can drive stick… to be filed under “Answers To Questions That May Have Never Been Asked”.

I am aware of the cultural phenomenon of the Kardashians and that they have a TV show. I am unaware of why they have a TV show beyond they are rich and some vague notion of OJ’s former lawyer

I swear on my mother’s grave I have never sang a Taylor Swift song, nor would I recognize a Taylor Swift song if she sang it nude in front of me. Tall lanky teenager from the midwest is all I got and something about American Idol.

Lux Interior was the microphone holder for The Cramps (was it singing? Not sure. Interesting, though). Can’t say who Captain Sensible was. Captain Antenille’s brother?

Kim Kar-what-ian?

Who the fuck is that?

Never heard or read the names “Kardashian” or “Taylor Swift” until I opened this post.

Just without TV. Did I miss something?

All I know about Taylor Swift is a blonde singer. Oh, and she’s young.

I know the Kardashians are famous but I don’t know why. Catlyn Jenner, nee Bruce, was married to one of them, the mother I think. They seem to have a lot of marital drama, and that’s all I know about the Kardashians.

And despite what the OP thinks I have not been living in a cave, and I do watch news, and I obviously have internet access.

Years ago when we would have threads about Paris Hilton, another poster had the best post that I’ll claim as my own: “yet another topic of which my knowledge exceeds my interest.”

We do know about Kim Kardashian. But not more than we need to. Because we also know about Dorothy Hale, the Kim Kardashian of the 1930’s. And Phryne, whose callipygian merits were equal to Kim Kardashian’s.

And we know the definition of “callipygian.”

I think another factor for me is that I don’t have children. Pop culture is geared toward the kids and teens.

I do NOT listen to Taylor Swift.

I AM very familiar with the curvy and lovely nature of Kim Kardashian…and several of her sisters.

HA-ha! You’re old!
(fuck, so’m I)

I am calling you a Moron, Sir/Madam. That’s right a Moron.

You really need to get over yourself because guess what not everyone is just like you. You have obviously been on the internet and in particular this website so you MUST have been exposed to people with different ideas, opinions, or preferences.

You would have to be stupid of absolutely elephantine proportions to think there is no one who doesn’t like celebrity news or music. Hell, I know there is a large percentage of the public who don’t like reality TV. That’s all it takes to not know much of anything about the Kardashins.

Some of us don’t give a damn about who the latest flavor of the month celebrity is. Some of us don’t like music or don’t like the music coming out these days. Not everyone on this message board is under the age of 25. It is not really surprising that some people don’t know much about Kardashians.

As for me I have a vague idea of who Kim is though if she were put in a police style lineup with similar looking people I would only give myself a 50-50 shot of picking her. I know she has a TV show but I have never watched it. (Put me in the camp who find reality TV boring.) I think she has some siblings (sisters?) but I don’t know how many or what sexes.)

I do know what Taylor Swift looks like but couldn’t name a single song or lyric. (I don’t particularly care for music and never have. I didn’t even listen to it when I was a teenager.) When I am in the car I listen to either NPR or the local sports station.

 Doesn’t everybody?

Until this thread, I was unaware of a Caitlyn Jenner - Kim Kardashian connection. Honest-to-god.

I do not think this makes me a good person. And I think of myself as reasonably pop culture literate, though you might now fairly suspect otherwise.

I like Taylor Swift - catchy songs (obviously not aimed at middle-aged me, but I’ve always liked good pop music), great business head, knows that she has some responsibility towards her younger fans, etc.

The Kardashians are a bit of a mystery though, and I think only Kim is at all well known in the UK.

nm, misread

Lux, along with his wife Ivy, was the very embodiment of sleazy rock and roll. Sensible was in The Damned.

Sorry, but while I’ve heard of her name, I don’t know very much about her at all.

And I hadn’t heard of Taylor Swift at all before her protest against Apple.

I know who Kim Kardashian is. She’s that strumpet who showed up on Wait Wait Don’t Tell Me a couple weeks ago and (apparently) pissed everyone off just for being invited on the show.

I know who Taylor Swift is, even though I don’t listen to the sorts of radio stations that tend to play her music. For no obvious reason I know she grew up in Wyomissing, PA (I lived just down the road, in Pottstown, around the time she was in grade school) and I know how Kanye West links Ms. Kardashian to Ms. Swift.

How’d I do? Not a complete old fogey yet, I hope?

My daughters tried to point out Taylor Swift and Katy Perry songs on the Muzak once. Sounded the same to me, though I could pick the singers out of a pop tart lineup. As a local radio station once said about Faith Hill, “We don’t play her music, but we still want to sleep with her.”

As I said in the Wait, Wait thread, I barely know who Kim K is, but she handled herself well on the show and seems like she could be a pleasant person if I got to know her. However, the photo I couldn’t avoid showed her to be more steatopygian than callipygian. I need to be the one with the misshapenly large ass in the relationship, thankyewverymuch. Otherwise, furniture breaks.
