I'm confused by the games on facebook.

I kept getting invites to Farmville and Zoo World.
So, do I just click on the stuff it tells me to? Do I have to check in everyday?
So far, I’m finding it very boring. And the gifts I’m getting from everybody are hogging my wall.

If you’re finding it boring, you’re not alone – tons of people love the games, but even more hate them.

Hell, I love FrontierVille, but hate FarmVille. Anyway, it’s easy to hide that which you don’t want to see:

Hover your mouse over a game update that someone posts. You should see the word “Hide” appear to the right. Click on that, and you’ll get a couple of options. The middle one is “Hide <whatever application you’re dealing with>”. Click on that, and you’ll never be bothered by that particular game again.

You’ll have to do that for each game, but after a couple of hours/days (depending on how many gamers you know) you’ll be free of all game updates!

You must be in your 40s then, like me!

I stopped doing any games weeks after I set up my account, because it seemed that in order to complete the process I had to forward the same invitation to all, or at least a subset of my friends.

No way was I going to continue to spam people that way, so no games for me. Even the most mundane task seems to result in having to spam people before you get the answer.

ETA: Too much work Hal. Ignoring the fuckers is easier.

Thanks! Some of the people on there, never talk about anything. They just play the games. If I had known, I wouldn’t have sent or accepted their friend requests. I want to reconnect with family and friends dammit!

I have a glorious Greasemonkey script (Greasemonkey’s a Firefox add-on and you can download scripts to do stuff with it) that filters out ALL CRAP-- application announcements, suggestions, event announcements, etc, called Facebook Purity (not “Fluffbusting Purity” to avoid trademark issues). Love love love. You can whitelist things so it’s not a complete nuclear option. Unless you want to to be.

Moved Cafe Society --> The Game Room.

That sounds perfect!
