I'm curious. What does "Humboldt" bring to mind for you?

Consider this a vague personal survey.

My experiences with the various implications of the word *** Humboldt***, that have been known by the various folk who I’ve met in my life, have always fascinated me. So what does *** Humboldt*** mean to you?

:smack: …and why?

A small town in southern Saskatchewan. They generally (IIRC) have a good junior hockey team.

Humboldt County, CA.

After flying into San Francisco, we drove through it twice getting to and from Del Norte County.

Current. Penguins. Geographer.
Why? The two former are named after the latter. Those are my mind’s immedate references for Humboldt

It means marijuana to me. I remember a lot of people refering to pot as Humboldt, supposedly because a lot of pot was grown there at one time. I haven’t heard that term in many years, though.

I remembered the geographer and the current, but forgot about the penguins. How could I possibly forget the penguins???

I keep thinking of Lolita. Hey, brain, it’s Lester Humbert!

Huh? Apparently I got American Beauty in there as well. I’m good at this today.

where men are men and so are the women (it’s a norcal thing)

Humboldt Univerity in Berlin, Germany

Humboldt penguins.

Heh. I’m a Linux geek and a fan of Penguin Caffeinated Pepperments.

What mkl12 said. And a vague idea of a stuffy 19th-century German guy who wanted to promote universal education or so.

The word “Humboldt” makes me think there’s something else for me to search on ‘Googel’ during lunch.

Humbolt, Arizona.

Tripler
I’ve been there. Whatta town.

Humboldt Park, a Mexican neighborhood in Chicago.

Humboldt Parkway, a highway in Buffalo NY.

I thought of the current first, and then the geographer.

Humboldt TN, The home of my redneck cousins. Also they have massive strawberry festival every year.

The Humboldt Current, wherever and whatever that might be.

Why? Don’t psychologists get grants to study the way the brain works?

(BTW – Welcome, Mariemarie! We trust you’ll find some threads a trifle less mundane and pointless to enjoy.)
