Sorry, but the moment anyone starts telling me how much they have changed, I get suspicious. I’d certainly say your hijinks happen less often, but your content is pretty much the same as always. Just sayin’.
I never really understood all the flack people’ve been giving you on this board. You’ve got problems and life issues like everyone else, and you are simply more open about it, and even blunt at times, but who cares? All anyone really cares about, is whether or not they’re being put on. i.e Are they being duped / are you presenting yourself disingenuously?
It seems the vast majority of posters here see you this way, and it might just be an negative side-effect of your particular posting style, or, sometimes you are being disingenuous and not owning up to it when called on it? I dunno… because such things don’t ruffle my feathers.
This is a (mostly) anonymous message board, and that comes with an inherent amount of people saying things they’d rarely, if ever, say to your face, if they weren’t behind anonymity. It’s cowardly, and the douchebags who beat you up for it (unless otherwise provoked – I don’t know – I’ve only seen a fraction of your threads) are worse than you are: That is, self-righteous, cynical bitches.
If you say you’ve changed, good for you. This will become evident in your future posts and thread participations. I certainly have over the decade I’ve been here. And like you, I’m not exactly anonymous here, and that’s the way I like it, because if I can’t speak my mind here about topics I wouldn’t have with people in real life, then I’m being a huge coward.
May you restore your reputation. Don’t change your username… own it. Frankly, I’m tried of the pussified cynicism here, myself.

But seriously. Most normal people seek attention, one way or another, unless you’re Ron Swanson. Some are just more obnoxious about it, others are more subversive, and some are able to completely abstain.

This place would be far less interesting if we didn’t have the Opals (dramatic) in the mix of the cynical, the rational, the illogical, the spiritual, the deadpan, the knowledgable, the extremists, the milquetoast, the whiners, the even-keel, the sympathetic, the self-righteous, etc.

Thanks for your sincere reply. It must be tough reading these responses to your post.
I don’t want to debate you on your other points, but I think you should reconsider your comment about openly discussing issues related to your son. You say you’re “going to any avenue”, but it seems more like shouting it in the streets. That’s just the tip of the iceberg; far more SDMB and Fathom posts about your son are out there for public viewing.
You might think that “seeking every avenue” by making your son’s private life and issues public may provide some useful advice, or at least some relief by venting. By posting intimate details about your son on the SDMB under what seems like the guise of seeking “help”, and not more discreetly on a parenting board or similar venue, it looks like you’re using him as a means to get attention by proxy. It’s also going to hurt him in the long run. What’s been posted about him is often embarrassing, it’s going to be online permanently, and it’s subjected him to some very cruel snark that he really doesn’t deserve. Unlike the details of your day-to-day activity that you share online, your son didn’t have any choice in having his life exposed on the Internet. Most parents work hard to protect their children, not expose their weaknesses and make them vulnerable.
Yes, I know, I’m not a parent, so I shouldn’t talk. This isn’t about parenting, but about privacy and common sense. We know far more about your son than we do about the children of other Dopers. Search the board, and see what’s out there. How does that benefit him?

That is a great point. It’s careless and irresponsible to post candid or private information about any other individual other than yourself, especially if they’re a minor and it might bite them in the ass when someone googles their name 10 years from now.
