I'm finally an uncle!

At approximately 10:55 PM, Thursday October 4th, my sister gave birth to a 6 lb, 20" baby boy. There was a little worry a few days ago at her last checkup when the baby was a little under weight. They induced her Wednesday morning, and she didn’t make much progress until Thursday morning, but still not enough by Thursday night, so they did a C-section. The baby was in the NICU for a little while, only because of hospital policy saying that underweight babies that had to be induced go there by default. He was released and given back to my sister, and everyone (both my sister, the baby, my brother-in-law, and my parents, who have all been there and almost awake the entire time since Tuesday night,) are all resting comfortably.

I’m so excited I finally get to be the cool uncle. Between my parents, my brother, and all my damn aunts and uncles, that baby is getting so damn spoiled (just like all the other kids my several cousins have already had. We have a large family…)

Congratulations!

I second the congratulations! I know how you are feeling. I became an aunt four weeks ago.

Are you in close proximity? They change every day!!

Congratulations! I am glad your sister and the baby are doing well.

I wish I could have been an aunt. I think I would have made a cool aunt.

Alas, no. She live about 4.5 hours away neat Boston. The first time I’ll get to see him is Thanksgiving.

I became an uncle almost 2 years ago, it has been a really cool experience. My Sister and I were close before and closer now as a result. We do alot of stuff together now, more than we did before. Sis had to go back to work part time two months after my nephew was born to finish up her Master’s degree in education that required her to apply her course work to her 5th grade classroom and having started the program before becoming pregnant wanted to see it through and complete it. So the family all pitched in and took care of the baby sitting from Feburary until the end of the school year in June, my dad did the bulk of the sitting since he was only working part time at the time. I took off 6 days from work over those several months when my dad or brother-in-law were not available, and I would not trade that time for anything.

I took a day off yesterday to baby sit again, so that Sis and B-I-L could go to an ultrasound apointment with our parents and his parents to see how the latest addtition to their family is coming, Sis wanted to include the parents so they could see all the cool things they can do now with the ultrasound and since this would likely be their last grandchild. Turns out number two is going to be a girl so that frees me from having to lie to the little ones, one truly will be my favorite nephew and the other my favorite niece.

Seeing the nephews face and reaction when I come over could lift me out of the deepest depression (if i was in one) The shear joy in his eyes and face and the sound of his laughter give me warm and fuzzies through and through.

My view of life has changed some since my nephew was born, I can’t really explain it very well, I just feel diferent now.

Bouv Welcome to the world of Uncles, no trip to the toy will ever be the same.

I am shooting for “Cool Uncle Skipper Too” my self, can’t wait to get the boy out sailing with me!

Congratulations! It really is cool to become an aunt or uncle. And glad to here the baby is fine. That’s always the best part.

I remember the night my first nephew was born. My sister had a long labor, and we hadn’t seen my BIL with any updates in a long while. So my dad and I(this would be his first grandchild) went sneaking down the hospital hall. We listened at the door, and I thought I heard something, then it was just like the movies, the “Wah, wah, wah” cry. My dad turned to me, with his eyes lit up like 200 watt bulbs. “Did you hear that? Did you hear that?” This question will probably be the happiest memory I ever have of my father.

Congrats!

Congratulations UncleBouv!

I’ve been an uncle for 7 years now! It’s pretty cool. It’s also weird having a new member of the family, because I’m the youngest in my family, so it’s strange. My newphew still calls me Uncle Merk, it’s pretty funny. Does everyone do that, or is it just a Southern thing?

But yes, I do try to be the cool uncle. It’s fun, plus my nephew is now getting to the age where his toys are really cool too. It takes a while, but he’s starting to get into videogames and such, so that’s neat.

But congrats. Being an uncle is awesome, you don’t have any responsibilities but you still get a little kid to play with as much as you want.

Never mind being cool; it’s fun! And you get to hand them back when they become difficult.
