Today at work, L came over to my desk while I was on the phone with a customer and left a “please come see me” message (which always gives me an “uh-oh, this is bad feeling”) and so when I got off the phone and went to see her, she told me that they had X job opening and I had been “strongly recommended” (which is good, and I wonder who it was) and did I want it. I didn’t have to apply or interview or anything, and normally they require a writing sample, but she’d been assured that I have “strong writing skills” (which is good to hear). And so, all I have to do is wait to hear the date that I get to move spaces, and I’m all set!
It’ll still be customer service stuff, but less incoming-phone-call stuff, which is good, cuz I hate talking on the phone.
I dunno yet. I have no idea if the new position is an upward or a lateral move (I checked with someone who is already in the same position, and she doesn’t know either).
Congratulations! I had a similar thing happen to me 6 years ago and it was the beginning of a career change I hope your change of jobs is as satisfactory as mine was.
Sorta kinda like what’s going on with my husband - he’s done so well as a branch head, they’re adding another group to the branch and letting him hire 3 more people. He didn’t bother asking if he’d get more money - I guess I’m a real mercenary, because that’s the first thing that came to my mind!
I just started a new job, but it was lateral (new account) and money was the first thing that came to Mr. K’s mind, too. Sometimes you can get a bit of a raise if the new account has more money allocated to it, but I think the people in higher places get that dough.
Congrats on the new gig! I always enjoy moving to another spot within a company. Change of scenery without having to start another 401K! What’s not to like?
