Tomorrow I’m getting married to my lovely fiancee whom I’ve been with for 7 years now.
I’ve been adopting a surprisingly Zen approach to the whole thing; I’ve known the wedding was coming for 2 years now, but until a month ago it was really just a date on a calendar with a mental note that I needed to have a shave that morning and that were was a tuxedo involved in a non-James Bond setting.
Then I realised this morning I had to give a speech, and more importantly, I hadn’t written said speech.
It’s now just after 11pm here, and I’m sitting in my study with a tuxedo hanging off a hook behind me, a copy of my speech coming out of the printer, and a sudden realisation that I’m Getting Married Tomorrow!
One word of advice: the day will be hectic, make sure to make eye contact with your new bride when everyone is pulling you this way and that for photos and to catch up on old times…The day is about you two, make sure you both keep hold of eachother on the day!
Congrats!
If you lived in Michigan ( and don’t you wish you did?) You could get married in a big fat snow storm that is (apparently) THE END OF THE WORLD AS WE KNOW IT!!!111!!!
Wait…you are getting married on Groundhog’s day.
There is a joke in there somewheres…
Many congratulations to both of you! Marrying the man I did, more than 19 years ago, remains one of the best things I’ve ever done!
Marriage rocks if you marry the right person!
Oh, and, FWIW, we agreed to write part of our own vows. Hubby, who had never done any creative writing prior to that, had his done in no time. I, OTOH, had written numerous love poems, compositions, and a short story or three. I didn’t get mine done until the night before the ceremony.
Martini, congrats, and good luck on your speech! Short words are generally best, and short speeches are even better. I’d suggest you not talk about guns, but it’s really up to you. As Phlosphr said, take time during the day to simply stop, take a deep breath, look at your bride, look around and savor the moment. It’ll be over before you know it, but you’ll have memories for a lifetime.
My wife and I have been married 17 years now, and despite our ups and downs, she’s my true love and I can’t believe how lucky I was to have found her. May you and your bride be similarly blessed.
