Yep, I’m getting a puppy. Here’s a picture. He’s the one identified as Carter, about three quarters of the way down the page. The fiance and I are now trying to figure out what we’re going to name him.
It’s between: leaving it Carter, changing it to Jackson(after Peter Jackson), or changing it to Petey. Petey is from It’s a Wonderful Life, since one of our best friends has a dog named Zuzu. And this is going to be like her brother. What do you all think?
Our little puppy is now 18 months old. Its great watching them learn and become your buddy. Each night when I come Oliver is there to greet me and we just sit down for a while and have a snack.
Tell you what, diku: you name that lucky dog whatever you like - he’s just the cutest thing I’ve ever seen.
<hijack> Our critters come from shelters, and my (rabid animal lover) older sister has just found a no-kill feline shelter in our area : 80 cats in a 2,500 sq. ft. house - near the downtown area. Dallasites in need of kitties, or who can contribute food or petting time -e-mail me! </end hijack>
What a cutie! I wish you a long happy life together. And check and see if health insurance is available in your area. It might be money well spent. It cost me $3K in the last year for knee operations on my dog.
However, there is trouble in paradise. When he went for his final exam yesterday, he got sick on the exam table. He then tested positive for Parvo. They started treating him immediately, at no charge to us. He’s got a 75% chance of beating it and being fine, we just can’t bring him home until next week. Once he gets over it, he’ll never get it again, and his immune system will be much better. Still, it is very worrying. I’m just thinking positive thoughts.
Oh dear! Here’s some warm fuzzy positive thoughts for you guys. He’s adorable. All of those puppies were, actually, how could you ever pick just one of them?
Oh Diku, I’m sorry. That’s hard to deal with. Did you let the adoption place know that he came down with it? If he’s got it, chances are quite a few of the others there do to. They’re going to have to decontaminate their whole kennel, or at least the family’s place where he (and his siblings?) were fostered.
The animal hospital that he’s at runs the shelter that we adopted him from. They had been testing all of them, and had isolated one of his siblings who had tested positive. She’s doing fine, and is now disease free. Everybody is going in for a retest, and they’re working now to sterilize everything. So far, so good. The vet told me to call every morning to check on him, but thinks we can take him home next Thursday. He’s doing ok so far, just not real happy :). We’re surviving. We never even got him home. But I’m thinking very positive, Murphy Road Animal Hospital has a great reputation.
Oh, good. I’m glad to hear he’s in capable hands. As far as I remember, parvo takes a lot of fluids and TLC to bring them through, and it sounds like you’ve got that.
