I waited a bit just for the sake of, well, you know, bad luck and things like that (for those that speak Italian: that’s scaramanzia), but now I feel like making the announcement: Christine is pregnant, and we’re going to become parents in September!
We’ve had the first ultrasound scan, and everything seems to develop all right. According to the doctors, the result of the blood tests she had say the baby has 1 chance in 32000 to have Down’s syndrome, so that’s a relief.
We decided to go for Italian names, and if it’s a girl she’s going to be called after Christine’s mum, Elisabetta, while if a boy he’s going to be called after my dad, Antonio.
This couple of months has been incredible for us; we found about the pregnancy, I finally got my PhD finalized (the parchment is finally hanging in my living room), I found a job, and we decided to look for a new house to move to (as we had a water leak this January, and one of the rooms is now moldy and smelly, and everything is cramped in our living room). We’re quite happy, but also very stressful, as the anxiety that some pregnant ladies develop is affecting basically everything we do now, from viewing houses to my survival prospects in the new job (I am only on probation now).
