Umm, you may want to rethink the idea of comming to Denver for fish. The places arn’t bad, but it will be less fresh and more expensive than anything you’re used to near the coast.
You mean they’re not freshly caught from mountain streams?? Bummer…
I guess I have to rely upon the natives for a good suggestion - so what say ye?
Yeah, To the best of my knowledge Colorado doesn’t grant any commercial fishing permits, So the trout and stuff is just grown in a pond that isn’t much different from the stuff anywhere else in the country. It’s possible I’m wrong, however I’ve never bought trout, cause it’s more fun to catch it.
It looks like so far it’ll be MaggietheCat, mlerose, and SamIAm336. I left a message for Fenris, but he hasn’t replied yet.
So, what time and what place? I should mention that I have a 6AM flight on Friday, but since I can take a shuttle from the hotel, if I’m sleepy in the morning, it’s no biggie.
All the restaurants I suggested are downtown, about 30 minutes from the airport if traffic is right. I am not sure if I will have to work that day; if I do I normally don’t get off till 5:00, but I might be able to finagle an earlier departure. I would like to hear from Sam and mlerose as to which restaurants they would like to go to; if you don’t like it I don’t want it to be all my fault! Just let me know what you prefer.
I am really excited to meet some fellow Dopers!
I live and work on Capitol Hill, so anything in the downtown area is fine with me. I like all the suggestions you’ve made with the exception of the steak place, unless I can get something non-meaty there. I would add my vote in for the Rock Bottom Brewery; though it isn’t a Denver-Only Establishment, it’s pretty good food, a large selection, and has a good amount of indoor and outdoor seating.
Does anyone mind if I bring my Superhero?
As long as your Superhero wears clean tights, I have no problem. And the Brewery sounds fine to me - it’s not a name I’m familiar with, so it’ll be a new adventure for me.
When I was in the area in the late 70s, we went to a restaurant that was like a cave - can’t remember what it was called. Does that place still exist? Not that I want to go there - just curious.
Any chance a lurker like me can invite himself along? I’d love to put some faces to the names I’ve seen on the boards over the last few years.
Please do come along! The more the merrier!
I gotta remember my camera…
The cave place is Casa Bonita, it still exists. The atmosphere is fun, the food is not that good. I love Rock Bottom Brewery, and sorry, I can’t eat fish, but anywhere you choose I can get something I can eat. The other places I am not familiar with, (I don’t get out much). So I am willing to be guided.
I suspect you are referring to Casa Bonita. Yes, it still exists. And you’re right, you don’t want to go there.

There is also Sevilla, I have no idea if it was around in the 70’s but it isn’t there anymore.

I’d imagine if it was Casa Bonita then cliff diving Gorillas(not to mention the piss-poor food) would have made more of an impact than the cave room.
Well, when my friend and I went to the cave to dine, there was no entertainment - just a restaurant. I do remember that you called your server by raising a small flag at your table, and I thought that was a really clever idea.
I’ve got photos somewhere of the two of us in “jail” in that restaurant.
So anyway, what say we do the Brewery for dinner?
All right by me. Is 6:00 p.m. a good time for everyone?
6:00 is great. Which one? There are 3. Highlands Ranch, 16th Street Mall, and Westminster.
The one on the 16th Street Mall would be best for me.
Maggie, I’ll send you my cell number so we can coordinate the motel pickup. I’m assuming this is a casual place - like jeans or khakis?
It is a casual place; jeans or khakis will be fine. I plan on wearing jeans myself. I will send you my numbers when it’s closer to time.
6:00, 16th street mall Rock Bottom Brewery. Sounds great!
I will be there, but I may bring my designated driver (brother), any objections?
