I'm Going to Hot Doug's

Based on a recommendation in a recent Straight Dope Chicago column, I’ll be visiting Hot Doug’s this Saturday. ETA is looking to be about 1130, so I’m probably in for a wait.

Right now I’m leaning toward an Original, an order of duck fat fries, and the blue cheese pork sausage with Sir William creme fraiche and almonds (but I don’t know if that will still be available on Saturday).

For the love of God go any time other than Saturday at 11:30. Unless you pack a lunch for your wait.

Yeah I know. I’m re-thinking my arrival time, but there are complications unfortunately.

Sounds yumptious. Will I get 10% off if I tell 'em my name’s Doug?

I haven’t been myself yet, but I’ve heard from several people that the duck fat fries don’t really taste any different than the regular fries, and more than one person has recommended getting the tater tots instead.

Your fellow foodies will be more apt to find this in Cafe Society, I think.

You can probably share an order of duck-fat fries with 2 other people - they give you a TON. I always go for an exotic sausage.

Does anyone else find Doug a little weird? He’s really nice, but just slightly…off.

REPORT:

Got there Saturday at about 10:40. The line was already down the block and around the corner. We waited an hour and ten minutes.

Worth. Every. Second.

I had the Saucisson Alsacienne (bacon sausage with carmelized onions, creme fraiche, and cream brie cheese) and duck fat fries.

Everything was exquisite. It’s on my must-do list for every future trip to Chicago, no questions asked.
