I'm Gonna Be On th' Television!

Congrats, Eve. I feel touched by divinity now.

I’ll be sure to tape it.

You say “cheesy” like that’s a BAD thing.

OK, Ike, take your pick of the following punch lines:

• “Turn her over!”

• Then don’t DO that with it!

• If you really want to, but most people ride her into town!

• What’s the matter—ain’t ya got a vase?

Eve, I am 6’5" in height, remember. If I were to swing dance, there would be property damage. Every lamp, every vase, every member of the waitstaff within my tremendous wingspan would be in peril.

Besides, swing is just so passe. How about we dance like those kids in the Gap holiday commercials? I love that Ice Ice Baby song…

I’m not perky.

I’m bouncing this to the top in a brazen attempt to curry favor with our lovely Victorian princess.

And also so she doesn’t have to indulge herself in that shameful self-gratification in which the rest of us roughhewn savages ritually participate. (modestly ribald pun intended)

Thank you, Uncle dear . . . I think . . .

I’ll be sure to bounce in perkily on Tuesday to remind everyone to set their VCRs on Weds.!

How 'bout reminding us on Monday, Eve? I live in Arizona, which is in the Mountain time zone and does not observe Daylight Savings Time. This makes it the worst state in the nation as far as figuring out what time a TV show will come on relative to Eastern listings. Therefore, I’ll need some time to figure out when the documentary will show here.

Oh, and congratulations! I always enjoy reading about the accomplishments of the Teeming Millions (whether I respond or not). It’s not too often that I get to see them on TV!

Okay Strainger, Eve appears to have missed Monday, so here’s me on Tuesday instead.

BING back to the top, at 4:50 EST. Set your VCRS tonight, everyone!

Eve’s been mighty quiet for the past few days…VERY uncharacteristic. Hope she’s not laid up with a virus…
– the above straight line graciously tendered by Ukulele Ike

Dear GOD, I hope not! (I’m assuming it’s true, since the tilde is missing…)

Eve, MANNY congrats! I’ll look for you (will it be on out here in the CA hinterlands?).

StoryT:

It’s on PBS, so it SHOULD be national. The series is called CULTURE SHOCK.

Eve is appearing on the segment devoted to the Hays Code and its influence on post-1933 Hollywood (it will be followed by a piece on jazz music in the 1920s).

I taped last week’s two-parter, which covered the HUCKLEBERRY FINN flap among contemporary middle-class African-Americans, and the effect of Manet’s “Olympia” on the late-19th century Parisian bourgeoisie.

Edifying, yet entertaining.

Uke

Bump.

Thanks to the other bumpers – I would have forgotten if you hadn’t kicked this back up!

Thanks for “bumping me up,” fellahs—I’ve been overwhelmed with Unpleasant Work Situations for the past few days and have been remiss in my goofing off on the Board.

Not sure if I am looking forward to this show—I have seen myself on the tee-vee before, and I do NOT screen well. Be sure to look at the nightclub background; they used so much atmospheric smoke that it looks like the Triangle Shirtwaist Factory.

And all you Jazzbos, be sure to stay tuned for Part II.

I expect you all to razz me mercilessly tomorrow—

How will we know which one of the people on the show is you?

She’ll be the one who looks like our Eve!

or the one named Eve…either way!

Cheese Head:

You’ll be able to tell by the tattoos.

Unfortunately our local programming has scheduled the show to run opposite an old Racquel Welch movie, Fathom, so I’m going to have to make some tough choices.

Oh wait! I see Kiss Her Goodbye is also playing at the same time. Now I know what I want to watch!

“pluto … a seriously demented but oddly addictive presence here.” – TVeblen

Well, after searching the local listings, I found that “Culture Shock” comes on at …drum roll… 9:00 PM. I guess PBS does things a little diferent.

One last pop to the top… one hour to go!

Time to start the popcorn…

I caught the “Hollywood Uncensored” episode of Culture Shock.
Eve appeared in a few cuts around the mention of Red-Headed Girl (at which point I pointed excitedly at the TV screen and exclaimed, “That’s her! That’s her!”, perhaps causing a mild perturbation in my wife).
At the risk of sounding either smarmy or dictatorial, Eve, may I say that there was nothing in the clips shown that should cause distress, either personally or professionally (the theatrical smoke wasn’t blinding, either).

It is often said that “anything is possible”. In fact, very few things are possible, and most of them have already happened.

Just caught Culture Shock. Well done, Eve! You avoided looking like a completely incoherent idiot, which is the only thing that keeps me from claiming my 15 minutes of fame.

Say, how about a bibliography? I’ve been wanting to read some of your work. (Of course, if you want to send me a free, signed copy or two, that would be fine.)
