The character of a man is revealed not when he loses but when he wins.
He had a lot of howler-monkey tantrums before the election. Still won. It’s not going to be enough to stop him doing anything. He may lose the next election but I doubt this would be the tactic that would cause him to do so.
I’ve never used the term “suck it up” in any post I’ve ever made on this board. Who, specifically, was telling you to do this, and why would it matter, since you didn’t? Suck it up, that is.
No you’re not, you trolling little hopeless douchebag. It’s no wonder your mother gave you up for adoption.
This. We never saw this in the days of Nixon or Reagan. Or Carter, for that matter. The side who lost simply shrugged and moved on. And never brought into play the President’s personal characteristics.
No longer. For the last eight years, we’ve seen Obama’s birthplace–the state of Hawaii–slagged as not a state at the time of his birth (though any student of US history can tell you that it was indeed a United States state at the time). His nationality has been questioned because his father came from Kenya, and his religion has been called into question because of his middle name. It’s been ad hominem attack after ad hominem attack, after ad hominem attack from Republicans over the past eight years.
Now the tables are turned, and what is sauce for the goose is sauce for the gander. It’s Republican Trump’s turn to be personally attacked. He’s the Great Orange One, the Cheeto; who goes off half-cocked on Twitter any time he is made fun of. Heck, I’m looking forward to reading Mad Magazine over the next four years; they have ruthlessly satirized every president without regard to party, since their inception. So has SNL. What’s Trump going to do? Shut them down? The First Amendment prevents him from doing so, but no doubt he will take to Twitter to provide us with more laughs than Mad or SNL ever could give us.
Trump will not make America great again. He will make America the laughingstock of the free western world.
I’m waiting for Twitter to ban his account. He’d have no way of communicating!
Were there any takers?
Maybe there’s a way around that. Maybe Trump could hire someone to call journalists up to the White House, and then give them the tweets live with their actual voice. They could call the post… mmmmh… the White House Live Tweet Director?
Nah, too complicated.
That’s not what I said. I don’t want a society where an angry mob through the threat of violence and destruction of property intimidates speakers and those who want to listen. Perhaps we can have violent mobs restrict other rights such as the ability to vote next?
There is an official White House account. No idea if the Cheeto will use it or stick with his own.
Shit! He’s on to us, guys! And to think, we almost got away it! Curses! Foiled again!
You are really clinging to that poor logic? Sad. And what you lack the intellect to understand is if mobs dictate acceptable behavior the mob with the biggest guns dictates how society operates.
Furthermore, let’s say that a business wants to not recognize someone’s freedom of speech or religion. Has the government ever involved itself in those cases?
Stupid, hypocritical leftists are so counterproductive to classical liberal principles.
Do you keep refreshing the page over and over to see what people say to you?
I log on once a night, read through a bunch of threads and maybe comment once in a while, which I know is not the norm here, but I would be surprised if people had so little else to do that they always answered me immediately.
Cmon, stop feeding the troll. He’s just a whiny little gradeschooler, apparently proud of the fact that he’s read something as complicated as Dr Seuss, jumping up and down screaming obscenities so someone will pay attention to him. He thinks things are going his way because he’s laboring under the mistaken idea that someone who is going to help him was elected, and he’s just too stupid to know what’s really going to happen. Just ignore the little idiot, he’ll do something dumb enough to get get banned eventually.
Just saw a quote from Conaway on Twitter saying he wouldn’t, he’s staying with his current account.
:dubious: Do you have a relevant example of “mobs dictating acceptable behavior” that you feel is interfering with the right to free expression? Because so far, the only real-life situation you seem to be referencing is a successful student protest against an invited speaker that resulted in the event’s cancellation.
That is not actually an infringement of free speech rights. Lying about violent mobs is not the same thing as actually having to worry about violent mobs.
It’s part of Yiannopoulos’s PR schtick to essentially troll campuses by seeking invitations to speak at institutions with campus codes of conduct that explicitly reject the kind of white supremacist hate speech that he is famous for. Then majorities of the campus communities protest his invitation and/or get it rescinded, and he spins it as those awful tyrannical liberals taking away his freedom of speech and possibly endangering him physically.
The point is, though, that Yiannopoulos’s freedom of speech is not actually being infringed at all by this “no-platforming”. He has no constitutional right to promote his views under the official sponsorship of any particular institution, so protests to deny him such sponsorship are not infringing his speech rights.
Yiannopoulos did show up at UC Davis the next day to participate in a much smaller counter-protest, which he had every right to do, and AFAICT nobody interfered with him in any way. So I think all this snowflaking drama about “mobs with guns” is rather overblown.
Kimstu, your post demonstrates perfectly the threat of the right in American politics, they are not just re-writing history through the Texas board of education, they are not just perverting science by denying climate change, they are also trying to re-write current events. A piece of shit like Yiannopoulos writes a fake narrative and then dumb asses like Octopus and Clothahump dutifully repeat it and soon Fox News is reporting it as fact. As long as the new narrative taps their fears of blacks and the better educated (and often their terror of those incredibly complicated and intimidating vaginas they never really understood) they will repeat whatever bullshit they are told to repeat.
Well, someone did throw dogshit at Martin Shkreli, which maybe counts as violence. That’s probably the person that got arrested.
Is abuse of dogshit a crime?
