OK, what say we do Goode on Tuesday? What’s a good time for everyone? I expect I’ll be done with class by 5, so giving me time to clean up, any time after 6 will work.
Will we need reservations? Can I get a body count?
And anyone who can’t make Tues, I gotta eat Weds too!
I’ll have to pass, as I will be in Las Vegas that weekend for a tournament.
Sorry
However, having read the threads, I gotta tell you that if you want BBQ, the best place in Houston is Otto’s. They have a new location near where you are staying, but there’s always the original place on Memorial Drive.
My wife reminded me last night that she’s in California that week (sure is the week for corporate travel!) and I’m the default babysitter. If it’s alright I’m still going to try and make it, cutiepie in tow, but we’ll likely be making an early exit.
If we’re going to the one on Kirby, I can probably be there at 7:30 or very soon after. It’s centrally located, just a shot up the Southwest Freeway headed north (towards town), exit Kirby, turn right, and you’ll see the sign on your right after a couple of blocks.
I feel it is my obligation to chime in here and say that if anybody does want to by FCM dinner, she’s really good at choosing stuff off the cheap side of the menu.
swampy, you just lucked out because I happen to love scallops, and Whitey’s scallops are reasonably priced. If he’d had Lobster Surprise, you’d still be washing dishes!
lieu - good - having a young 'un there ensures everyone will be on their best behavior and we’ll be less likely to wake up in jail, right?
7:30 works for me. I’ll just need very accurate directions, and I’ll probably be way early because that’s just the way I am… Should we have reservations, or should I just order up a table for howevermany when I get there?
I just now found this. So, if I’ve read it correctly, we’re talking 7:30 PM, Tuesday, February 8th at:
Goode Co. Barbeque
5109 Kirby Dr
Houston, TX 77098
713-522-2530
Correct?
FairyChatMom, your hotel appears to be on the east side of the SW Freeway, so you’ll want to get on the freeway on the side your hotel is on, which will be the inbound side. Once on the freeway, stay away from the outermost couple of lanes until you’re past the interchange with Loop 610 (big ol’ thing - hard to miss). Once past that the exits will be (1st) Weslayan, (2nd) Buffalo Speedway (I’ve always loved that streetname) and (3rd) Bingo! Bingo! Bingo!Kirby. Exit at Kirby and get over to the right. Make a right at the light on to Kirby, and then get over to the left as the restaurant is about a block or so away on the left side. It looks like an old red barn. Be forewarned that there is another Goods Co. restaurant, a burger place, on the right hand side.
Thanks, Ringo - I just need to remember to print out these directions! Since I’m getting in fairly early on Monday, I’ll probably take a test run out that way so I know where I’ll be going.
For anyone who can’t make Tuesday, wanna try something on Weds? It can’t be too late, since I have a very early flight on Thurs. Just a thought.
Some people might mention there’s a twelve foot tall statue of an armadillo wearing a cowboy hat in front of the place. But I guess in Texas that’s not considered an unusual landmark.
Technically, but it is where you’d turn to go to the parking lot. And how could anyone resist giving directions that include “turn left at the giant armadillo”.
