My Last BatDope or Freyr leaves Austin

Okay, the date is set: July 24th, 2002 is when I’m leaving Austin for graduate school in Northridge, California.

So, to say goodbye to my fellow Austin Dopers, let’s hold a BatDope! The question is, when and where?

How about the last weekend of June? Say June 29th or 30th? That’s far enough into the future it should be open.

Where do we go? I think Salt Lick is good, tho really far out there.
Should we try for something closer in town? Suggestions?

Salt Lick was good, but if any of the locals have other suggestions I’m up for it.

Saturday the 29th will likely work best for out of towners (that was a long day in the car last time).

Name the time and place and I’ll do my best to attend.

I’ll do my best to attend, but given my current situation, I can’t make any promises.

Robin

29th sounds good to me, just keep us posted. And perhaps something in the city this time for the likes of Tapioca and others without cars or rides.

It wasn’t the lack of car that made me miss the last one (FYI I just cycled past the the Salt Lick not 90 minutes ago). It was the lack of helicopter from my oil rig. Now, if a doper can supply me with a chopper …
Anyway, I’ll just check my diary

Er, can I vote for some date OTHER than the 29th? I’ve got a friend’s wedding to attend on that day. I’d really like to get some good Batdopin’ in, though.

Dates and places are negotiable! I just threw out those particulars to get conversation started.

I thought setting the date far enough in advance would help things since in our previous efforts, the date was often within 7 days and everyone’s schedule was already booked. I thought the weekend before Independence Day would be fairly free. How about the weekend right after?

I wouldn’t mind someplace close into town, too! I’m living on the far south side now (off of Slaughter Ln).

How about something different: Mothers. It’s a great restuarant the specializes in vegetarian food. It’s centrally located, on Duval and easily accessible via bus.

Anyone want to offer other ideas, please do so!

I’m typically agains veggie-specific places (I don’t like veggies), but Mother’s has some pretty damn good enchiladas, and they’ve got this vegan double dutch chocolate cake that is AMAZING!!! Damned near impossible to tell there’s no dairy in it. This is the one up in Hyde Park on Duval and 42nd you are speaking of, yes?

I’m all for getting this settled by the end of the week so we can all take the needed steps to get off of work/clear calander/have fun without having to rush off to something else. Given enough time, I’m pretty much good for any date, so long as I have a couple weeks advanced notice. And seeing as how it’s your last Dopefest here, Freyr, I think the choice for restaraunt should be all your’s. Unless you pick a seafood place. Then I’ll have to pick

Thanks, but I do want to let some folks have a say in this. With my luck, I’ll pick some place the everyone dispises and end up with only me in attendance.

Any other suggestions out there? Any other dates up that are good for people?

I don’t have a job yet, so everything’s wide open for me. I’ll happily go wherever we end up.

Hey, y’all:

Post an update now and then - I may be able to join you for my first Dope ever.

So, do we have a decision yet?
Anyone?

Great! Sushi for everyone!

Um, my post earlier about no seafood should rule that one out. And Fionn’s “I don’t have a job yet” should rule it out as well due to it’s insane priciness.

So, let’s try something else, shall we

And a date would be nice as well. And if we decide what day to have it, it’d be nice to know that as well.

OK, how about July 6th? Anytime, and locals hash out the place.

Good?

Buffet Palace is kind of expensive (ten bucks a person), but they do have sushi there and other stuff for those of us that don’t like seafood (there are others in this group besides me, I can prove it). Of course, if you’re a sushi guru, you might find it to be crap, so I don’t know. But it could help satisfy everyone, perhaps.

It’s around 183 and Anderson Lane, right by Hobby Lobby.

I might can make it. Saturdays are the best if it’s an evening thing.

I don’t eat sushi!

Jim

This all sounds great to me. I don’t mind Buffet Palace and it might make a good compromise between those who eat sushi and those of us who like real food (just kidding!!) The only problem is that it is a pricey place. How do the impoverished amongst us feel?

So, July 6th, mid-afternoon Buffet Palace?

Right now, either of those Saturdays works for me. I’d like the most amount of people to come, of course, so perhaps the 6th of July as beatle  suggested. As for food, I am definitely in the “No thanks, I’ll pass on the sushi” bunch. Not living in Austin, I can’t offer any suggestions as to location.

Freyr, my dear, I’ll be sad to see you go. But happy with why you’re going. I’ll be there to give you one last hug, for sure.

Not to mention anyone and everyone else who wants one.
