I’m guessing I’d need a mod’s permission to link to the actual book, so I won’t do that. Back in 1998 I went to Burning Man and was filmed and photographed by various people, at least three of which involved signing release forms. I had covered my body in green and red paint and looked pretty interesting. One of the photographers took quite a few pictures, and has been taking pictures of people at BM for the last thirteen or so years. He finally got a chance to publish a book of photos he took of people at BM.
Anyway this weekend marks the book release party! And I’m told there’s a whole page dedicated to me. I’m excited! And proud that my body art was considered publishable. (although a picture of me body painted also appeared in a an issue of XY magazine)
If a mod stops by and says I can link to the book or to the photos in question I’ll do that.
Not safe pictures of me posing with shirtless woman can be found two sets after that. Also note if you wander outside of that first set you may encounter some other NSFW pics of Burning Man folks.
Not me, but my son’s picture was in an article about dart players in Conde Nast Traveler.
A good friend’s butt was alson in Conde Nast Traveler in a piece about the Grand Canyon. She didn’t know it until I poined it out. I guess because her face wasn’t shown, they didn’t have to get a release.
Haha yeah. I painted myself, so there were a few thin strips of skin on my back that got missed, and subsequently sunburned. After I showered, I had these red lines of sunburn on my back that looked like whipping marks!
Now that’s an idea: Paint yourself one day in a way that deliberately leaves area free to tan/burn. Then the next day, you have yet another set of decorations to wear, carved by the sun!
Congrats! Cool paint job. Pretty awesome photography, too. Is there some point to all the nudity at Burning Man? Is this, like, today’s kids’ version of the ‘60s free love hippies? The group that looked like they were dressed for a wedding looks a whole lot better in their clothes. Just sayin’.
My sister and her family were models used for illustrations in a book, Avram’s Gift. The young boy on the cover is one of my nephews, and if you click on the look inside feature the picture has my sister, her ex-husband, one of my nephews and several in-laws in it.
That is so awesomely cool! Your pics are great, and that book looks fascinating. A friend of mine is really into Burning Man, I’ll have to show him your pics and ask him if he knows ya.
I used to be one of the immortals (game masters) in a MUD, a text-based online game. Most players were either American or foreigners living in the US. Our first Russian player was Phantom; nice fella, a good player, very curious, I remember him in one of my “Kindergarten groups”, where I would take newbie players to these big but not hard-hitting mobs in an underwater area and taught them game mechanics; we also talked a few times when I was in my immort. He eventually disappeared, as people are wont to do in those contexts.
And then we started getting Russian players by the boatload, lots of them, so many that eventually our big boss, Jake, asked how come. Turns out that Phantom had written a book about the internet: how to use it, things to do, places to go, and had recommended our MUD for its “superb writing, patient players and immortals” as a good place to practice your English. He had dedicated the book to a bunch of people from our MUD - including me. Twice! I was listed both as my immortal and as my main, with the Kindergarten groups described in the book itself.
I’ve seen two copies of the book: one when I met one of our Russian players who came to Spain on vacation (we went parachuting) and again in the library at the Scottish university I attended a couple of years back. I’d love to have a copy.
