I'm late, I'm late! (a late MMP from Spain)

SCL, Maddy says ::Slurp::
She’s feeling much better. Only picked 5 fights with Loki today…

We had a fire drill. As always, our firm ensured the death of everyone in the building. See, we have the bottom half of the building, and just mosey along down the stairs, causing the building evacuation time to be something like 15 minutes. This is a 16 story building, and offices don’t start until the 4th floor. They keep threatening to have the fire dept come in and give citations to the people who refuse to evacuate, but the fire dept usually has better things to do. Of course, since our building’s occupants consist primarily of lawyers, accountants, stockbrokers and bankers, I suppose the case could be made that we’re no great loss anyway.

More fun tormenting employees: NC was told that she had the transfer and promotion and she should have the offer letter “tomorrow.” That was a week ago. Now it comes out that our new dept head is attempting to block her transfer, and not incidentally, her promotion and raise.  Meanwhile, they keep jerking her around. Now of course, if it’s not in writing, it didn’t happen, as I know only too well from experience (what was it, twice? Three times? that they just never “filed the paperwork” for my promotion?) What a bunch of maroons. She’d really like to be able to afford to quit her 2nd job; that’s one of the main reasons she applied for the promotion. And that’s another thing: how can our pay possibly be competitive when so many support staff have second jobs?

Hey, what’s with all the pubic hair Google ads? It must be Maddy’s fault, with all the slurping. :stuck_out_tongue:

Whew - busy day, but better than yesterday, mostly. Training might get better tomorrow, but I swear, I’m going to keep a tally of how many times this man says “Basically…” I think his record is three times in a single sentence. I was ready to throw something at him!!!

Finally got my travel reservations made for next week - it only took 4 tries. First time, I called too late. Second time, I called at the right time, but the office was in training for the first hour of the day. Third time, I called around lunch - I couldn’t hold that long. Fourth time, success!! So I’ve got an intinerary on my fridge and tomorrow, I take the TDY paperwork up to the department secretary.

I talked to my branch head about giving an award to my electrical engineer. The guy has done a heck of a job for all that he was brought into the project only a month or so ago. I told Kevin I want him to either get time off or cash or something. Kevin seemed surprised that I thought of it. But, dang, I got a check when I did good - Bob deserves at least the same.

Then I talked to one of my other engineers about his part of the project, so he’s good to go. And I talked to the Navy guy about the big meeting tomorrow. I’m getting out of it, but I gave him the info he needed to cover for me, so I’m spared another trip to DC. And I talked to the Senior Engineer who I don’t much like - all of a sudden she’s concerned about coming between me and my team. Funny, that didn’t occur to her months ago.

Anyway, I’m home, fed, and relaxing. It’s raining. I’m tired. But life is good.

At least the guy doesn’t use BLUF (bottom line up front). Good on you for wanting to make sure your employees are rewarded for a job well done. Some supervisors or leads don’t think of doing that for their employees.

I’m glad your day went better today.

Hi Swampy! I hope your flight plans are not derailed. Ha! Seriously, if the flight plans are kaput, maybe you could take the choo-choo home.

Time for me to clean up my desk, make one last pitstop and head home. Thank goodness. I’s TAHRED.

FCM, be glad that you don’t have to deal with the absolute horror of GovTrip, the online travel reservation/authorization package many govt. agencies are now using. shudders Mind you, their Help Desk is wonderful, but the software itself? Horrible!

Good on you about the award - I got 3 days earlier this year, and I’m getting ready to use them in December.

Made lime curd and cranberry curd for Christmas presents, grocery shopped, am making stew, and I think I’ll do minestrone in the crockpot overnight to use up a lot of veggies- rapini, cabbage, carrots, hot peppers, herbs, and some black beans I have hanging around. I’m tired.

DTS (Defense Travel System) is the same. What used to take 15 minutes, can now take several hours. Also, I’m not convinced we’re getting the best airline rates. I have to admit, though, that I’m reimbursed very quickly.

Sounds like our training software. It’s where we sign up for any internal training we take. We have mandatory training that we had to: request approval for, receive approval for, and then enroll for. Finding the course to sign up for was a nightmare. Once approval was there, it was listed. Also, it has a cutesy design that includes links on a “campus” and on a “desk” that are arrange in no intuitive manner.

It’s smart enough to keep me from reusing my network password to log into it, but it’s not smart enough to keep me from approving my own request to attend mandatory training (my boss is on vacation and I really didn’t want to bother his boss). Figured I’d see if I could approve it myself and, well, I was successful. That thar’s some real good design.

I’m extremely tired. Came home early, had a meeting to go to, got home 1/2 an hour ago and am crawling into bed momentarily. It appears that number of casualties in the MMP has stabilized. Please keep it that way!

Cranberry curd? Didn’t know it existed. Sounds yummy. I’ll take both that and the lime. Thanks.

Hope NC’s transfer comes through, Jahdra. Sounds like she deserves the promotion.

Well, I’m falling asleep as I type. I think it’s a sign.

I’m back. Did you know that I laugh at pts and tamper with their food?

No?

Well, the guy who just went AMA thinks so. I was talking to the supervisor about him and Co. and I did explain to her that I wasn’t the only one “laughing” at him-the Chief of Staff was too, I guess. And the absolute kicker? He wasn’t even my pt and I had nothing to do with him! Oy.
Did you ever want to go through a crowd with some kind of Star Trek weapon, yelling, “culling!”? I do.

Off to bed and then tomorrow, for a change, I thought I might work on oh, I dunno-some grad school stuff…

gt, I just talked to a friend’s dad, who’s very active in his RCIA programme, and his advice, which was wonderful, boiled down to- “The guy in charge sounds wack”, and “Bother your pastor a whole lot”. We may have located one I can take, although it’s in kind of a sketchy neighbourhood. I’m reliably informed that what Toronto people think is sketchy is upper-class in some American cities, though.

I went to training camp this morning - Coach has got a good group of kids on the ice. I’m looking forward to the season even more now, if that’s possible. About 10 of us went to lunch afterward and got into a paper-ball fight. Just can’t take us anywhere. I know the waitress who had to clean up must have thought “WTF?” We do tip well, though.

Rained all day. I like rain, and we really needed it, but I hate driving in it. My Jeep is a silver-grey color that is almost invisible on a wet road. I keep my lights on but I almost got rear-ended anyway. That would not have been a good thing, because I’d hate to have to get out in the rain and beat up some maroon for hurting my baby Jeep.

A minor miracle occured tonight - the five toed chair sloth actually presented her royal self for petting. That is very rare. She will tolerate being petted but I can only think of one other occasion since she was a kitten when she actually asked to be petted. And she purred for me! Maybe I should go buy a lottery ticket.

I think I’m going to bed. Catnip dreams, everyone.

SCL your Sloth is just lovely and cuddly-looking. Pity she isn’t generally cuddle-able.

I went to the hand doctor today for an unveiling. The re-attachment is pink warm and soft in the center, but white and cool on one edge. Too bruised on the other side to assess yet. He’s pretty sure most of it will take. He said I’ll have a lot of scaring, but I should have full use. I go back next week to get the stitches out, so I’ll know more than.
It still hurts quite a bit, but the drugs help. He gave me another 'script, so I’ll be loopy for a few more days.

and just think of the fun dreams you’ll have - be sure to tell us about them - I’m glad the healing is going well

Blaaugh.

So far, they’ve all been errible! I keep reliving the moment the door shut, and the moment I stepped into the kitchen and looked at it. gahhh! Maybe I’m hoping to change the outcome.
I looked at it today, but since it has the icky part covered up it’s not so bad.
I was actually able to stay awake for two hours after taking my 6:00PM
Of course, I’m awake now because I can’t take another one for an hour. I’m not loopy, and I’m in a fair amount pain. I like the other way, better.

Well, **Rue ** invaded my dreams again last night, but I don’t recall the specific plot. Just some vague recollections of him and something about a basement, and lots of pastel colors. Make of that what you wish.

Just a quick pop-in this morning, and now, I’m off for another day of training fun and Power Point Rangering.

Air kisses all around! MWAH!!

Sounds like a reliable assessment of the guy in charge to me. Glad you might have found an alternative. Yay!

I’m more awake this morning. Maybe I’ll be able to get something reasonable done at work today…

::Sneaks in for a quick post::

Howdy! It’s cold and snow lookin’ here. Today we wrap up all the fun. I’m still waiting on TPTB. I’d still rather drive to Minneapolis and spend the night near the airport rather than trust Mesaba here. Ima get medieval on TPTB this morning, as well as finish up work.

Happy Humpday y’all!
