One of our cats has decided to stop eating unless we specifically show her her dish and tell her to eat. And sit with her while she eats. We’re not sure if she’s doing it out of spite or if she forgets what food is. :rolleyes: She’s really really thin and can’t afford to lose any more weight, but… ugh… it’d really help if she’d just remember to eat. :smack:

Stories like yours **mbg ** really make you wonder about whether unions have outlived their usefulness. My mother was a teacher and as such a union member, and they did protect her sometimes (mainly from spoiled daughters of school board members), but they also got a teacher who was arrested for drug use reinstated. At least in part because he was friends with the school superintendent.

Mr. Lissar is currently struggling eith a unionised company they’ve got in to do valet parking- they leave people’s keys lyings around, slack off, swear at their putative employers when asked to do things, and last week they accused Mr. Lissar of ‘roughing them up’. :rolleyes:
They have to funnel all complaints, orders, and requests through the union liason, and no one on site is allowed to speak to them directly, even to ask them to shut the door. I know that unions are very useful in many cases, but this one is stupid. Really, really stupid.

Only after extended sitting, like, oh, say, working for nine hours a day. Or in cold/damp weather, like, oh, say, we had half the week. I’m definitely vastly improved, though, so I can’t really complain. Well, I can and do, but it doesn’t have any real heat to it. But I’m really excited for another 2-3 weeks from now, when I can sit on the couch comfortably and watch tv for an evening, rather than haul the couch so it’s parallel to the tv and then position myself facedown with a pillow under my stomach to keep my back from arching and a heating pad on my butt and then another pillow on top of the heating pad to keep it in place and a cat who doesn’t seem to understand that this spot is where my head goes.
There’s a hockey game tonight! ::does a little happy dance:::
It should be interesting 'cause Coach has said he plans to give the new guys a lot of ice time, so they can show what they’ve got. Some of the guys have been here three years but no one has a guaranteed spot on the roster.
DB - stay out of my dreams! Well, not you exactly, you are welcome (how you doin?) but I woke up at 5, read your post, and dreamed of a rat when I went back to bed. It seems I thought it was a rat, and was freaking out trying to get it off my shoulder, but it was really a cat. From there I somehow segued into something about show horses and hockey players. I’m so confused.
Got a call yesterday reminding me we are supposed to meet for breakfast at 7am this Saturday before the river-cleaning event. Why do these people insist on holding mornings so damned early?

MBG, there are many people whose jobs I envy, but you are not one of them. Will you have to put a monitor on this guys bus, since he doesn’t see that he did anything wrong and might do it again?
I’ve been trying to convince someone of that, but she’s his cat so it’s his call. I explained that this is what happened with poor Teddy last year before he died, but someone doesn’t want to take her to the vet. As long as she eats while we’re watching her, he thinks she’s ok. She is still playful and active and does her business. But yeah, I think she should see the vet.
I’ll end up putting someone on the bus, and we’ll be videotaping as well. All of our buses have cameras. Only about 1/3 have a hard drive recording the camera, and there’s no way for the driver, or anyone to visually inspect and see if the HD is there, the cable goes into the box regardless.
I have a letter from the union that says I can’t record with the intent of monitoring driver behavior for disciplinary reasons, but I CAN just randomly decide that his bus needs a camera, because (honest injun) he does have some problem kids.
Probably not because he doesn’t really come in here much. I’ll work on it though. She probably should just go get a routine check up sometime soon anyway so I’ll try to convince him that that’s enough reason to take her.
So, mbg, it sounds like the union agrees with you that he’s trouble? I do see the point in not specifically targeting an employee, but it’s frustrating when every one knows that they’re a problem.
I think I overdid it yesterday. I just want to curl up and go back to sleep. Unfortunately, we have training today. It does end at 3, maybe I can go home after that.

Driving Husband and I have completed our quest. He bought QD a very nice pair of diamond earrings for her birthday, and half-paid off a not-terribly-expensive ring. Still more than mine. It’s white gold, with a centre bevel set sapphire, and two diamonds. Very modern looking, not antiquey like mine. I particularly liked one that looked a bit like this,but the one he bought was more like this. It’s a beautiful ring. In a couple of weeks he’ll propose, and then she’ll have a fit.
Working tonight, and then home tomorrow. It’s a bit grey and blustery. I like it.
I went home at lunch and Nikita, the non-eating kitty, tried to steal my lunch! So I gave her a little tuna to get her to eat something (other than my food). She gobbled that up and came back to try to steal from me again! Argh! Why does she want people food, not cat food??
And Lily, the other cat, likes to drink out of the faucet in the tub. This morning I went in to the bathroom so she turned to look at me. She didn’t see the drop that was about to fall so when it hit her, it startled her. And she reached up and smacked the faucet. You could almost hear her: “Don’t you do that to me!”
whew! I survived training. Remember earlier when I mentioned the instructor’s tendency to overuse the word “Basically”? Well, yesterday and today, I counted.
Yesterday morning - 54 times.
Yesterday afternoon - 61 times.
This morning - in just over 3 hours - 173 times. :eek:
The instructor was obviously knowledgeable, but he spent way too much time on details that we didn’t need. I already contacted the guy who’s setting up the next training class to suggest that he tell the next instructor to do a broad overview, then let us ask questions to get the detail we need. We shall see…
I think I’ve finally finished my power point slide show - hope so - I have to brief the new colonel at 8:30 tomorrow. My LtCol is supposed to review it this afternoon. I’m not too worried - it’s an in-house brief, preparatory to my travel next week. Worst I can do is make an ass of myself in front of the division director and department head… Whatever…
**FCD ** gets to pick up his car this afternoon - all fixed and shiny. Then we’re going out to dinner, and running to the marina to check on the boat. We need to stop in WalMart, too - we’re almost out of doggy food.

Wow, LiLi, that first one looks just like my friend’s engagement ring (the bride from last year’s Hell’s Wedding, for those of you keeping score at home). Her husband has long since been informed that should any man want to marry me in the future, he’d better make sure he’s consulted on the ring. That man has excellent taste in women’s jewelry.

Oooooh, pretty rings. I like them both. Of course, I don’t wear rings, really, except the one grandma gave me, that was her present when she and grandpa celebrated their 60th anniversary. I’ve been wearing it for 13 years now. I figured there were a bunch of signs: I actually liked it (she and I never had the same taste in jewelry) AND it fit AND there was a sentimental reason to wear it. Mine’s sapphires and diamonds too (little bitty unobtrusive ones).
MBG, that’s just scary. There are some behaviors that ought to be reasons for removal, no questions asked. It makes me sad, because I think there’s still a valid need for unions, but there are a whole lot of poorly run/organized unions that make it easy to question the value of unions.

I’ve had an exciting array of food for dinner. Mostly snacky stuff (peanuts, chocolate, little rice cakes) and also some corn. Couldn’t really decide what I wanted for dinner, so I just grazed a bit.
