I'm mesmerized by the Kia dancing hamsters

I’ve nicknamed them the Dancing Kiamsters. And they’ve burrowed themselves into my head and nested in the fluffy cedar chips I call a brain.

I don’t know what it is about thesecommercials, but these fly rodents are all I think about lately. I find myself asking “What would the Dancing Kiamsters do?” whenever I find myself in a pickle. Or “What awesome choreographed moves would they bust to this song [insert whatever song is currently on my car radio]?” Or “Why has no one made a feature film of these hamsters just dancing for 90 minutes?”

And their latest video? Party Rock Anthem? With the dancing assault robots? It’s a wonder I can get any work done at all with this thingon YouTube.

I felt weird cause as a little kid I was mesmerized by Sheena Easton. No fooling I’d just star at her picture or on TV. Of course I was like five at the time

Well that’s just silly. She never even busts any sweet b-girl moves in any of her videos.

Hamster Dance, you say? Nothing beats the original.

I love it too! Crappy-looking car though, heh.

I know, right? Despite my undying love for these videos, I wouldn’t be caught dead in one of those lunch boxes on wheels.

I took a break from watching the Dancing Kiamsters on YouTube to Google information on the Dancing Kiamsters, and found this articleon HuffPo. Best explanation of why this campaign works:

"This commercial is funny because it’s so disproportionate. Hamsters are little animals. We dominate them so completely that we build their worlds for them, shooing them through mazes of plastic tubes and then clapping when they run. Therefore, seeing a hamster behave like a bad-ass is so audacious that it’s funny…That brazen, endearing confidence also extends to the hamsters’ ride. Because really… a Kia? Is almost like the hamster of cars.

As I said in the Commercials You Hate thread, I hate this, especially the newest one.

I hate it because the combat part is stupid. And incongruous. I understand the hamsters are part of the campaign, but the troopers? Is someone supposed to watch and say “Hey! I like Halo! Now I should buy a Kia!”
I hate it because the hamsters do a stupid dance to a stupid song.
I hate it because the hamsters look either obese or like they just shat 5 pounds into their paints. You get to watch it flop around. Or maybe the ate a whole bottle of Viagra… Any way, it gives me a serious uncanny valley.
I hate it because Kia makes a shitty, cheap car with patronizing “cool” model names (Kia has “Soul”).

Arnold, thanks for the brain bleach.

Dee-da-da-doot-doo…

I stand by my OP. I could watch a feature-length movie of nothing but these guys dancing. Robots are welcome too.

The animation is really well done. I enjoyed, and laughed a little. Glad I don’t watch commercial TV any more, so I just watch what other people link to when they do “love it” and “hate it” threads.

Excellent. It is all going according to plan.

That song came on the radio at my kids’s school, and my 5-year old daughter started looking around for the hamsters. She was seriously pissed that they weren’t there.

I’ll just leave this here.
