I'm not a Cave Man so why is my browser behaving like such?

All of a sudden my internet explorer started behaving like the tortoise from the fabled Tortoise and the hare. Every time a type a sentence the computer takes a few seconds to catch up…So the cursor is way infront of the words when I am typing, and I can see the words I just typed catch up after I’m finished typing them.

Here are some of the factors I can think of relevant to the problem - I think…
I’m working of a year old Dell Pentium III. My wife and I just got a cable modem in this office. The computer is not networked at all. I was running on dial-up. I checked the settings and all looks good. roughly 60+ percent hard disk space left…
What are some things that may be affecting the performance of the explorer?
And it’s only in Explorer when this happens. I opened word and it is fast as ever.

Get AdAware and Spybot Search&Destroy. I had somewhat similar problems once and it turned out that some spyware was responsible.

Eli thank you soo much for telling me about Spybot Search and Destroy. It appears to have fixed my woes. Much good vibes sent your way. I’m going to write the programmer of that program and tell him how great it is. I may even send a donation. !

Actually it is happening again but only with straightdope. And it’s progressive. Like right now everything is fine, but the last post I wrote took me forever because the text did not catch up to the cursor? Why is that?

Re: I’m not a Cave Man so why is my browser behaving like such?

What makes you think that cave men were particularly slow? If anything, they led lives more active than the sedentary lifestyle common in the modern world. Those who survived being hunted by a sabertooth tiger would be pretty fast. Maybe not fast enough to outrun the tiger, but fast enough to outrun their human companions.

I wish my typing on this browser was a fast as a young cheetah

Maybe you get inflicted by spyware again? Do you have a firewall such as Zone Alarm? If not, I highly recommend you to install it.

Watch out Phlosphr, you don’t want to get embroiled in a lawsuit with an organisation representing the interests of ethnic cavepersons…

OG RUN!

I’ll bet Phlosphr can type faster than a caveman. Though it might be interesting to get a caveperson’s viewpoint on some of these threads.
