Allright, so Rhythymdvl isn’t a master or parody. I didn’t think the OP was all that funny either, but c’mon. It was fully intended to be satirical. I have no sympathy for anyone who refuses to dig deeper and follow links in order to educate themselves about what is being discussed.
Even if the guy was serious, people should still follow the links to see where the information came from. To not do so is pathetic. So, sure, Rhythymdvl is no Jon Stewart, but, though I normally blame the “comedian” when a joke falls flat, this is one case where I do blame the few members of the audience that willfully refused to use critical thinking.

Honestly, I wasn’t trying to be funny at all in the OP. It was a conscious choice as to how to frame it (not that the choice was optimal). I figured I could either directly pit or, because the question of whether or not it actually was racist was in the air, to put it out and see whether I was overreacting or not. Though pretty confident that my repugnance was warranted, enough pits have gone the wrong way to want to check. To remain as ostensibly neutral as possible (well, neutral as possible given the context), I tried adding as little of my own input as possible. Where I did add something, I split the line to separate sections (the “you may respond” was based on ** Farmer Jane**’s post). My initial inclination was to not even attach posters’ names to the quotes—pretty much to avoid any potential baggage that people might have already. But I thought that the ‘reveal’ as it were would be too cutesy.

dngnb8, you’re either in for a large forehead-smacking moment or everyone is talking past each other and actually saying the same thing. Here’s the whole chain of events; perhaps that will help. CR and Q posted in a thread about religion. They received a note from TnD telling them to take it to another thread (a note, not a warning). CR opened an ATMB thread questioning it. As a side point, it was pointed out that, among other things, CR’ and Q’s noted posts came across as racist. A bit of back-and-forth ensued about whether or not the were/were not racist (mhendo was involved, which is why I think he took this thread as a personal attack; hopefully he now understands it wasn’t intended that way).
To highlight the issue, I merely changed “black” with “Jew.” The question over racist/not persisted, and thinking it was a) a sidetrack to CR’s ATMB thread, and b) likely to stray from what’s allowed in ATMB, I put it in the Pit. Not to vent at anyone per se, but to carry on in a less constrained fashion.
So in an attempt to remain as neutral as possible (whether fully successful or not is irrelevant), I remained as true to the original posts as possible, only changing terms that referred to black people/preachers with words that referred to Jewish people. The idea was, as noted by another poster above (so it seems it wasn’t entirely opaque) was that by changing the subject only the inherent repugnance (or what I thought as repugnance) would be clear.
So, your posts:
Are you expressing indignation at CR and Q (or some mix of the two) about their below-the-surface racist attitudes? Do you find them innocuous and are outraged at the assertion? Have you–until now–been conflating the subject of the thread and mis-attributed sentiments to the OP that should be directed at CR/Q? Something else?
