I'm not saying it's aliens, but ... it's aliens

I know. I can’t tell if they’re gullible or just pandering to the masses.

Interesting question. If a meteorite lands in my yard, I get to keep it, don’t I? There is some dispute about rain drops in the western states.

And terrestrial spacecraft generally belong to country or agency that launched it. They probably don’t want to pay for a new roof, but that’s not news.

Alien craft though, I’m glad Congress has noted this glaring oversight and is taking steps to rectify that.

So Congress is going to make the aliens who dropped this pay for the damages?

And don’t give me that “meteorite” nonsense. I’m sure that’s an expended dilithium crystal from an antimatter propulsion unit.

This is my problem. I often don’t believe first hand stories, why then would I believe second hand ones?

From The Hill article:

The lawmakers say “the sheer number and variety” of stories about UFOs have led some of them and their colleagues to believe the executive branch may be concealing information about possible visits from extra-planetary civilizations.

Sure, we can be bi-partisan on UFOs, but the budget or healthcare - no freaking way.

In the US, absolutely. Laws vary from country to country, though.

Has this guy’s pic been posted yet?

I saw a U.F.O. when I was 11 or 12. It looked just like one I saw in a classic science fiction movie. (I’m sure I posted a pic from the film, but I wouldn’t know how to find it.) What I saw, through some thin cloud cover, was a bright, shiny ellipse. It seemed stationary. I have no idea what it was. But I can tell you what it wasn’t: An alien space ship.

The plot thickens. Notice that the guys testifying left and center look like twins, even tho they claim to be different people? I think this proves that aliens are cloning themselves to look like humans and these hearings are part of a secret plot to confuse the people. Don’t fall for it!

If they are both named “John” we are soooo screwed.

‘Tay! Tay! BigbooTAY!’

They are actually called Kang and Kodos.

If they landed but didn’t want us to know, they would be able to hide it, since they have to be far ahead of us in technology to get a spaceship to Earth. So if they landed on Earth, they must want everyone on Earth to know it. They would land next to the U.N. building in New York and have one of them walk into the General Assembly, where that alien would tell us that they had come to serve man. That one would drop a book on the platform. Eventually we would be able to translate the title of the book as To Serve Man. Then we would find out that the book is a cookbook. And that’s more plausible than aliens constantly allowing their spaceships to be visible to us and not admitting their existence.

no–that was plausible 60 years ago, when Rod Serling was writing.
But not today.
Today, you’d have to translate the book title as “to serve cis-men, and cis-women, and transmen and transwomen, etc”

Comedian Bill Maher once did a satirical take on how Hollywood would do a modern version War of the Worlds-- where AOC files a complaint that we have to respect the MartianX people.

One of the fascinating things about aliens ,and the discovery thereof, is that it tells us more about Americans than aliens.

As a general rule, science fiction tells you more about when it was written than about the future.

I am kind of heartened that this bit of legislative time wastage has not really blown up. I suppose that the general American public is more concerned with things that actually affect their lives (or at least that they think do) or that are understandably salacious.

:expressionless: But, seriously, it would be presented as “To Serve Humans” and that would keep the spirit of the original.

Yes you may call me Mr. Buzzkill, in regard to this post.

Which when we think of it, is true of both SF and historical fiction, since in the end it’s about how the author sees things from where they are sitting.

All of the following topics have lots of believers, but which of them do you think are basically correct?:

Astrology
The moon landing being faked
Climate change denial
Lysenkoism
Feng shui
Acupuncture
Aromatherapy
Colon cleansing
Uselessness of COVID-19 vaccines
Crystal healing
Holocaust denial
Aryanism
Crop circles
Ghosts
Exorcism
Creation science

Take the camera away from Bigfoot!, because all we are getting is blurry pictures in the far distance that could be anything. There must also be close up, detailed pictures, where are those? Oh yeah, The Government is hiding them.

The Government consists of ordinary people doing jobs that they would be paid much more for in the private sector, from truck driver to aircraft pilots, but they are the ones protecting all this hidden information? Everyone from the person opening the hidden hanger doors to the scientists studying the craft, they are all keeping their mouths shut. Thousands of people. Ever try to keep a secret from even a dozen people? It can’t be done. In spite of ‘security clearances’ there are no military police knocking on former member’s doors to bring them in for a violation. If you have ever met a former military person who could keep their mouth shut about what they did, well you are meeting different people than I am.

Supposedly the Russians have lost 3 aircraft and two pilots died, during encounters with these craft. And the Russian Military Dept of Defense (MOD) issued a statement; MOD (Ministry of Defense) issued a nationwide order that UFOs should be left because, in the words of a top Air Defense official, ‘they may have incredible capacities for retaliation.

My translation from Russian: quit chasing illusions into the ground.

No real pictures, no physical evidence, no biological specimens, no evidence of any kind, other than a few former military people trying to make some money. That is it, about the money, not some kind of patriot trying to get the “real truth” out. Money.

Are we holding a poll?

Zero. I believe in none of those things.

It would make the twist a little bit easier to see coming. Perhaps “To Serve Humanity”?

don’t forget he also listed the Vatican

Do you think being transgender makes someone a completely different species?

Why not just “to serve humans”? Or, you know, just “to serve man” because like every example of “woke run amok” or whatever you think you’re commenting on, this is really just a manufactured controversy?
