Forgive my jubilance but my wife and I are on our way to the Cape from Connecticut. We’re almost ready to give way and I thought I’d post from her new ipad. This thing rocks. It’s got wireless internet through the airport card this marks the first time I’ve ever posted from A) a wireless lap-top and B) from my boat. I’m psyched. I probably won’t post back until a little later because there is a fair bit of fog this morning and mrs.phlosphr doesn’t really like to navigate in the fog.
If any dopers are going to be in the Hiannis area this afternoon, there will be Margarita’s a plenty aboard The Loaded Pickle today. (long story on why we named her after a condiment)
I’m sitting in my loft, in my house, in Colorado at 11,200 feet. About to send a ‘letter’ to a person in a boat thousands of miles away that I have never met.
And it will happen in an instant.
Have great fun Phlosphr, I can picture the boat and the fog.
It’s going to be a bright sunny day up here. I live about 1/2 mile from the continental divide, my neighbors are two 14,000 foot peaks.
We will be going to an art festival today, instead of gifts for our anniversary, Mrs. enipla and I buy a piece of art for both of us.
Me? I’m posting from the reference desk of a university. It’s a slow day today.
But I use the wireless connection all the time when I bring my laptop to campus. It’s very nice to have. And very cool.
GOOOOOOD MORNING!!! Here I be again, but now I’m about 130 nautical miles north of where I posted from yesterday. I’m docked off Mashpee, Massachusetts. Sorry I didn’t post back to this thread yesterday. I got caught up in a lot of other stuffs as I’m sure you can imagine. I did some fish’in yesterday (came up nil) but the margarit’as were fun, and watching the F-16’s fly up and down the coast protecting our great land we have here were fun to watch. Thanks sockmunkey the wife and I are damn hard workers for the stuff we have. This is the first summer I’ve had off in almost a decade, but non-the-less we try not to skimp on the good things life has to offer. Hard work does pay off and plus we don;t have any kids … yet.
Once the little mini-phlosphr’s start running around who knows what’ll happen. I’m gonna need a child-gate on the tree house for a good many years…
Serious Jealous Cape Cod Moment…. Whew. That was rough. Sure do miss that place, for a few years there we vacationed each summer in Mid-Cape. Since you’re headed there anyway, would you be a dear and stop by the Fairway Restaurant in Eastham and pick us all up some sour cream donuts? Thanks !!
I too love my Airport, but find it maddening to go through life finding Airports everywhere, only to realize I have no Network ID Name, and no Password to make use of it. Very frustrating. But yes, the idea of using a wireless link is SO cool. I haven’t been able to get together the toys for the cel phone/modem link for my TiBook, but that’d be the bees knees. Being on the Web from anywhere in the country.
Travel safely, mind the humpbacks and enjoy. It sounds like you have earned it !
Posting from home…and the boat (16 ft Whitehall sailing/rowing boat) is finished getting the varnish re-done (a “winter” project…ha!) and will be going in this week.
Alright, enough with the idle chit chat. We demand to know the story behiond the name The Loaded Pickle. You can’t just drop a name like that on us and expect us not to ask, Mister! So, make with the story.
The Loaded Pickle: When I was three I ate an entire gallon jar of pickles, it made me so sick I threw up on the Thanksgiving day table right after everyone sat down. I was at the kiddy table so it worked out. But this was 1971 and I had an affinity for pickles. I couldn’t get enough of them. But I also could not control my urges. So I’d usually eat the whole jar…
By ten, my brother would say…“Uh Oh…Here comes The Loaded Pickle…”
I guess the name stuck.
[sub]so all of you who had your mind in the gutter can resurface on that one.[/sub]
