Eggs are deviled, sorta. The whites are sliced and bagged. The fillin’ is in a ziplock bag ready to be squoozed into the whites after we get to Mom’s tomorrow. Punkin pies are done, including some extra filling baked in a dish because I had too much for 2 pies but not enough for 3. Lemon meringue pie is done. Extra filling is in the fridge as a special treat for FCD.
He just called. Bernie is gone. He talked to the vet about what had been going on with her and she agreed it sounded like canine dementia. She said it was time to let Bernie go. **FCD **was there when they gave her the tranquilizer and she went to sleep. Then he left. She was a sweet dog and a part of our family for a long time. I’m glad we rescued her way back when, and I’m glad we were able to give her a good life. I’m also glad we let her go when she needed to go. She was a beauty.
Sorry to be such a downer. I’ll be OK in a few days.
Meanwhile, the rest of the menagerie is driving me nuts. Taz doesn’t understand the he’s not supposed to be on the kitchen counters, *especially *when I’m cooking. I toss him down, he jumps back up. Repeat. Then repeat some more. Idiot cat. I let Cozmo come up just a little bit ago. He’s chewing on his hedgehog, making the most ungodly noises. Pugs are so weird! Scruffy continues to be my shadow. And Ziva exists on her own plane. Her latest favorite thing to do is scrunch up the dining room tablecloth into a nest, then sleep in it. No matter that we chase her down every time she jumps on the table. Another idiot cat.
I need to make myself a sammich, then cook up a big batch of sketty sauce for the freezer. Then, who knows. Something for supper - maybe tuna steaks? I dunno…
Today will be working until about 2ish then prepping stuff - making corn bread for the stuffing, shopping onions etc that I need for tomorrow, baking sweet potatoes for the pie etc.
mr ems had one job for Thanksgiving. Buy the peanut oil to deep fry the turkey. Guess what he has not done? Go on…guess?
{{{FCM}}} Yes, Bernie was a beauty. I’m so sorry for the loss of your family member.
Long day at work today, then home to start cooking. Hubby will be hitting the store to get everything today so I don’t have to shop when I get off work. Since everyone is sharing their menus, here’s tomorrow’s menu for Clan Havoc.
Ham
Turkey Breast
Mashed N.O.T.
Peas
Sweet N.O.T. Casserole
Dressing
Rolls
Can shaped cranberry goop
Two pies: a turtle Jell-O pie and a chocolate-pecan pie
{{{{{FCM}}}}} I’m so sorry; I know how much it hurts, even if it is the right thing to do.
I swear to God, nothing is going right with regards to work. Everything is fubarred and I’m the one that has to fix it, because conveniently, the person whose stuff is fubarred is on LEAVE again. Fucking tired of that…
I was hoping to get out of here a little early today, but because I’m so far behind, I’ll probably be here all day.
I have to stop at the store and pick up some last minute stuff for tomorrow. Yeah, that’s going to be craziness.
So I’m wondering what I’m going to do with the rest of my day off, since I’ve finished shopping, when my phone pings. My spidey sense tingles and sure enough, it’s my boss and a file is missing. I text him back to confirm which file and start getting dressed to go to work. Off I go, and there’s the file, one step away from where it’s supposed to be. So I prettied it up and sent it off. This is about the third time this has happened, so I’m not sure if I’m losing my mind or the file system doesn’t quite save everything. Could be both, I guess.
Dinner tomorrow:
Tofurky roast with stuffing
Cornbread dressing
Mashed N.O.T.
Cranberry sauce
Green Jello salad
Praline yams
“Giblet” mushroom gravy
Rolls
Pecan pie
I have plans for the leftovers, but I think my Thanksgiving dinner got a little out of hand. That’s a lot of food!
Sandra Lee and her semi-homemade tablescapes are the worst. I think she samples copious amounts of her cutesy cocktails when off the air.
Condolences on your beloved pup, FCM.
Bernie looks like she was a real sweetie and I know she was well loved and taken care of.
My heart goes out to you and your family.
My boys, one a goofy pug named Boris and a Lhasa Apso named Sherman , will get special treats and extra scritches in her honor today.
Oh, Bobbio and S.O., if Wiki is moving to Marysville, WA I will be about 10 miles away from her.
The temp is up to 23 “Amurrikun” today and we still have 5 1/4 inches of snow on the ground. It’s supposed to start snowing in the morning and then warm up to 40 and rain tomorrow so we will start to thaw out.
Happy Thanksgiving to the rest of the MMP that celebrate.
May your Turkies be moist and your gravy without lumps.
I swear I posted a sympathy post last night, but it’s been et!
Anyway: {{{{{{{{{{{{{{{FCM}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}
and {{{{{{{{{{{{{{{Bernie}}}}}}}}}}}}}}
It’s just the two of us tomorrow, so we’re roasting a chicken. Dunno what else we’ll make. Prolly a potato thing and a salad.
Stoopit UPS man came this morning before we opened and left a note on the door that he would try to deliver the package again on Monday morning, right next to the sign that says we’re closed on Mondays. Stoopit UPS man.

Ok the last three may be had by various feasters later on in the day.
I’m done cooking. The batch of sketty sauce yielded 3 freezer bags which are currently cooling on the counter. One pie is in the fridge, and 2 are cooling in the garage before being taken to Mom’s. I’ve got a list going of stuff to remember. Hope I remember to put everything on the list.
We’ll be leaving by 9:30. Dinner is at 1:30. That’s pretty much the plan.
Rain is in the forecast, which will make for a lousy drive. But there will be lots of food and my insane family, so there’s that. And Mom got a 24# bird, so I expect I’ll get some leftovers, too.
(((FCM))) Darn animals have a way of getting stuck in our hearts. I lost both a pommie and a kitty recently. I take them in when it’s time and stay with them. It’s very hard, but for me it’s the only option. I am glad that FCD went, and (((hugs))) for him and your daughter as well.
Hey all you menfolk? You are making me feel loved, thanks! Sherm which direction do you live? It would be easier for me to guess. At the moment I am thinking Everett or Arlington! I am in the Sunnyside area of Marysville, which was all cows and strawberries and woods when I came to Alaska nigh onto 22 years ago. And while the Smokey Point intersection is unrecognizable now, the little 4-plex I lived in when I was 18 is still there, off in what remains of the woods.
My crates were shipped last night, so they might actually arrive within a week of my arrival, yay! Now it’s all about closing on the house (long distance, yikes) and then playing with the grandbabies and spending time with their parents. This I can do.
My daughter is cooking The Feast over at her in-laws house. Well, she is cooking the turkey, mashed potatoes and gravy and a pumpkin cheesecake. I am bringing my fabulous sweet potato casserole, the green bean casserole, (even if I didn’t like it there would be a violent uprising amongst my kids if I didn’t make it) a fruit salad and my holiday jello salad. (Raspberry jello with frozen raspberries, let it set, spread a thin layer of sour cream over the top and then another layer of jello and raspberries, then another thin layer of sour cream, it is teh yum!) I have a small turkey thawing as we want leftovers to munch on, plus I will be making doubles of the sides. Oh, and a couple of pumpkin pies too. We like holiday dinner!
So, off to the kitchen I go. I love you guys, Happy Day whether you celebrate Thanksgiving or not!
Who decided that green bean casserole (ick!) and whomp rolls (crescent rolls) are de rigeur for holiday meals? Cause, well, they’re just food. Nuttin’ special.
Dindin is heah! Sorry 'bout that General but I’s hongry!
mr ems just got home and he is currently seasoning his new turkey fryer pot that I got him for early Christmas. Then he is going to get the Peanut Oil. So he says.
I am headed to make the corn bread, chop onions etc and seeing as everyone is posting menus here is Casa de ems menu:
Deep Fried Turkey
Giblet Gravy
Potato Gratin
Mamaw’s Green Beans (aka super awesome secret family recipe belonging to mr ems family that I was not given until I was engaged to mr ems)
Cornbread dressing
Sweet Potato pie with Whupped Cream
Not bad considering I am English
I belive an adult beverage may also be in order. Can’t cook without it…well I can but I mainly chose not to
