Go to a place that hires temporary office workers. Some of them have training programs for basic office skills. They test you for data entry (how fast you type and input numbers accurately), and make sure you can file (alphabetize), and then send you somewhere that needs a temp to do that stuff. Make copies, fax stuff, answer phones. Even if you don’t work in office settings in the future, it’s useful stuff to know.
I did temp work in the summers in college. Mostly it was basic office stuff. One job was envelope stuffing. Another one was part-picking at a Nissan warehouse. Not bad for $15/hr in 1991! I signed up with 5 different places so I always had assignments to choose from, and new ones lined up.
And you wonder why people mock you for lazy typing? Because we know you can do better. In my home growing up, the word “bored” was not allowed. Only stupid people become bored, because they’re too stupid to come up with something to do. I learned very quickly to never say that, and to find something to do. Or at least not complain. Chores would ensue.
Now go meat people. Be careful with that.
