Today my sister called me to tell me she’s pregnant. She has one son, Christopher, who is now eleven years old. She had a second son, Craig, who died two years ago of cancer. He would have been seven.
She had problems with both of her previous pregnancies and had decided after her second child not to try again. Last year she decided to try again under the care of a doctor specializing in high risk pregnancies.
She is due April 20, 2002. Which would have been Craig’s eighth birthday, had he lived.
I feel like I’m witnessing a miracle. I’m getting teary eyed again, but I’m so incredibly happy right now.
Now I just have to be a good sister/aunt and think of a girl’s name-we’re all positive it’s a girl-beginning with the letter C.
Well, we already have a Catherine, a Cathleen, and a Charlotte in the family, so those are out.
It was funny though, when we were talking about names. She said “BTW, I won’t take the name Cobain because I know you’re planning to use it.” She knows me and my quirks so well.
I like Claire more than Clare…I don’t know why, it just seems more feminine to me.
Christine
Colleen
Caitlyn(I don’t like it, but hey, I’m not the parent or the child)
and Congrats to your sister and your whole family.
Congrats, hon! I know how happy you are with this!!! Yeah!!! (And I just became the aunt of a beautiful baby girl in November, so I can send you lots of cool “Aunt-of-baby-girl” stuff!!! )
I can’t really think of any C names that haven’t already been mentioned, but I’ll keep a look out for some good ones!
Congrats and a second for Claire, my wonderful little girls name!
She starts second grade tomorrow and I was over easing her fears about it. She is worried about how she will do but then picks up The Fellowship Of The Ring and starts reading it aloud…sigh:)
Thanks everyone for the name suggestions. It’s just going to be weird to have a niece. I’ve only had nephews and male cousins so far. I am already looking at baby dresses when I go shopping.
I gave my sister the list of names mentioned so far, as well as the links.
I find it amusing that the alliteration bug hit my sister. It’s like this…me and my sisters are Tina, Tanya and Tara. Tina married into a family that was Kevin (her husband), Keith and Kathy. She then names her sons Chris and Craig
I’m naming my children Kurt for a boy and Justine for a girl-if I ever have kids.
But, of course, I’m well prepared for my future probable daughter, Cornelia, to be the only girl by that name in town. (It’s my great-grandmother’s name, and shares a first syllable with my chosen name. What can I say, it’s a great name.)
