My son was recently at a physical to he could go to camp. They took his height and it was 5’3". Now, I’ve always been 5’2" or maybe 2.5… so as we have standing orders that if he gets taller than me he is grounded, I asked if they could take my height as well. They laughed and said ok. Turns out I’m 5’3" as well! Did I grow!? I’m 38, I kind of figured I’d have settled into a height by now…
Anyway the kid gets a reprieve on grounding, for now at least
I’ve lost some weight (about 15 pounds) over the past month, and I now seem suspiciously taller–closer to 6’3" than the 6’2" I’ve always thought I was. It’s possible that the loss of weight helped my posture issues, and that, as Tahssa says, could be contributing.
And that’s a nice little boost to lowering my BMI, too:
6’2" and 230 pounds: BMI = 29.5
6’2" and 215 pounds: BMI = 27.6
6’3" and 215 pounds: BMI = 26.9
Due to a back injury, I’ve been spending a lot of time working on strengthening my abs, and my therapist recommended flexing them as often as I can, when I sit, when I walk, etc. I was brushing my teeth the other day and reminded myself to flex them as instructed, and I swear I got a half inch taller! Better posture will definitely make you “taller”.
Personally, I think your threat of grounding him has been heard by powers greater than us and that you are now destined to remain just a teeny bit taller than him forever.
In other news, my 11-year-old nephew is now taller than my 6’ 3" brother was at 14. His feet are something like 2 inches longer than mine, too. He’s finally passed his 15-year-old sister (who takes after my 5’ tall mom) and seems taller every time I see him (every couple of weeks or so). I remember how relaxing it was to hold him in my arms when he was a baby. It’s freaky to think it’s the same kid.
