I did do Searches- I found this page showing all 25 threads containing the word ‘pitted’ in the title (not just in the Pit), and this page showing all the threads containing the word ‘pitting’ in the title (not just in the Pit). Let’s try to compile a complete list of all the users of SD who have ever been pitted, linking that entry with the thread. For instance-
Notice that I just write the name of the user, and link to the corresponding thread. For users who’ve been pitted multiple times, just list them multiple times with different links.
If anyone’s willing to help compile this list, I’d really appreciate it. It’s a hard task- seeing as these threads can’t be pulled up in Search.
Well, I want to come up with a canonical listing of all the times other drivers annoy the heck out of me on the freeway. I’ll come up with entries like
You have got 25,203 Pit Threads to search through with no rhyme or reason on how to determine a member pitting.
At a glance, I don’t see how you can tell the difference between a non SDMB member pitting and a member pitting.
What all this means: find a way to interest **Idle_Thoughts ** in your project.
I think what he’s saying is that - you can’t tell if **Anaamika ** is being pittied or Dubya, with your method…so you have to search through that many more.
What he means is how are you going to tell if it’s George Bush, Michael Moore, or Paul Verhoeven being pitted. You’re still going to have to go through them. Well, if it keeps you off the streets, have fun!
No, you did not start a “poll” under any definition of the word I’ve ever seen. You tried to start(for reasons yet to be established) a research project that would tie up other peoples time and the SDMB’s resources.
May I ask why?
True though that may be, the other point–the one about server resources–is perfectly valid. They are limited, and during times of heavy traffic, searches can slow the boards down dramatically. It is for this reason that multiple, pointless searching is frowned upon. There are enough problems with occasional slowdowns without creating more issues unnecesarily.
This isn’t a good idea. It’ll just dig up old fights, that have long been dead and buried. Sometimes things are worked out, sometimes there are still sore spots. There are some hot button issues that have been hashed out, that don’t need to be brought up again. Merely mentioning some of them is enough to cause people to sigh, and say “Here we go again.” as another huge argument breaks out between the varying opinion factions.
It doesn’t necessarily have to involve using the search function. I think what andrewdt85 was suggesting in his IMHO thread is that 50 posters go through 10 pages each and go from there.
Also, it would bring up the names of people who have been banned, and possibly socks or trolls. I don’t think that would go over very well with the SDMB Powers That Be, though I am not a moderator. They don’t want socks/trolls to have any more attention at all, and have said so more than once.
