I'm very pleased with American Idol

It is BEAUTIFUL that so many of us are pulling for Frenchie! If anyone in that group has star power, it’s her. And it’s her twice over because she’s got it in spite of her fat!

And before we all feel too grim about the chances of a fat woman in the modern music biz, let’s remember Missy Elliott! Yeah, she’s lost weight, but she became a star fat.

And Simon is going to have one hell of a time talking shit about Frenchie’s talent.

I plan to vote for her every chance I get.

Clay Aiken cracks me up. He’s Rick Astley for a new generation.

If you’ve never heard Rick, copy and paste this and you’ll get a Realplayer sample (Close the space between the www. and amazon…dont’ ask): http://www. amazon.com/exec/obidos/clipserve/B0000630ZW001001/103-3463442-2121410

I totally missed Gundy’s post.

That’s okay…so did I.

And don’t forget Queen Latifah! Go Frenchie!

HA! I missed that bit, but at one point I looked over to the other side of the couch where my fiancé was squirming and writhing in what appeared to be revulsion. Then he started pointing at the TV and saying “Ear. Ear! The ear. It’s all . . . the ear!!! Gaahhhh!” Something makes me think he saw what you saw.

Poor guy.

I agree that Frenchie has what it takes. Killer voice, cute name, sweet personality and completely awesome hair. The girl she sang with (I think her name is Kim?) is also a bundle of sweetness and talent. I wanted to hear them over and over too, forget the other people - close up shop and hand it to them! I wish they could both win.

I loved Frenchie! Well, both of them! I was surprised they made it as they had cut the chubbier girl who could sing last time (she sang ‘respect’ I think)…but I think it has something to do with their attitude. Both women are spunky and confident, and I think that helps.

As for Julie, I like her. I know what it’s like to be ditched/left out, and to have a family member or friend step in and blow things out of proportion. I actually wondered if they were trying to keep her from succeeding by cutting her out, or if it really was just a big misunderstanding. I’m basically in her camp, as long as she keeps singing well.

Something I noticed about Frenchie (whom I adore and like Stoid, I’ll be voting for at every opportunity) is that even though she knows she’s fabulously talented, she also seems perfectly willing to share the spotlight. On the duet that she sang, she was perfectly moderated in the background instead of wailing at the top of her lungs and drowning out her partner (screaming out a song is something that less talented singers do, because it seems to be easier to hit notes if you have enough lung power behind it…being able to hit them without shrieking is a sign of talent, IMO). She also played peacemaker with the group that was getting catty, which shows me that she wants everyone to get their fair chance and not blow it because of something stupid.

Definitely a class act, as well as talented as all get out.

I agree that Frenchie is by far the best singer to appear in either AI show. I think she will be popular enough in the voting to have a real shot at winning, and even if she doesn’t win, she’ll get a record deal for sure.

I thought the blonde haired party guy was a real punk to go after that little gay kid like that. He’s exactly the kind of guy that smacks his girlfriend around at parties.

What a little bitch that blonde girl is (the one with the perfect, hair and designer sunglasses, and designer clothes, and the carefully coached voice-- the who who was the ring-leader of the “ditch Julie” group) I loved it when Julie’s sister went off on her. I think that entire group should have been disqualified for that little stunt.

The marine irritates me. He’s too fat to be a marine for one thing, and the saluting is really tiresome. I hope goes to Iraq really soon.

Guarini-hair seems to think that he’s already a rock star. I cringed when he pulled that little kissy stunt with Paula Abdul. I also think he goes out of tune a lot. I hope he doesn’t make the top ten.

Rock and roll dude, I like. He’s kind of an underdog, but he’s got a decent set of pipes. I don’t know why he’s wasting his time on the bubblegum tripe they make him sing on AI, though. He wouldn’t have any trouble getting a gig with a real rock band.

I dunno…didn’t he sing that damned Edwin McCain song, “I’ll Be”? If there’s any singer-songwriter that makes me cringe, it’s McCain – he’s so sappy. Blah. Anyway, I think rocker-dude is interested in being Sensitive Yet Tough Guy Pop Star, and that’s why he’s there. I dig him, but not so much his song choices, even if that one did suit his voice.

Which brings me to another question. In this round, were the songs selected for the teams or did they choose them amongst themselves? I missed the first part of the program.

Hey…those blonde twins are gone. I just realized that.

Okay, this is pathetic, but I can tell you all these people’s names. I didn’t watch AI1, but can see why it’s a sensation. I’m now completely addicted.

–Frenchie Davis. I agree with Jadis that it was really impressive how she could let her partner take the spotlight. She’ll win. Even if she doesn’t, I bet she gets a deal, because she has true star power–sort of reminds me of Tina Turner in that way. She’s a diva in the good sense.

–Kimberley Locke. (yes spelled with an extra e) She was Frenchie’s partner. Love her. Great voice. Great presence. She needs a bit of style help, though.

–Clay Aiken. The Rick Astley guy. Who could believe that voice could come out of that little body? The folks over at TWoP are referring to him as Opie Weasley, which I think is perfect. He has the geek chic thing downpat.

–Rickey “Hercules” Smith. He’s my absolute favorite. I felt bad for him at the initial audition because they were ranking on his looks. So, he’s a little homely. But what a voice! When he sang “The Way You Make Me Feel,” I understood for the first time why people are Michael Jackson fans. It’s a great song when someone else sings it! I love this guy. I hope he and Frenchie make it to the top 2. She’ll win because of pure diva-tude, but he’ll get a deal. He may not have pop-idol looks, but people will buy his records because he is great to listen to.

–Julia Demato. The Hairdresser. Eh.

–Kimberly Caldwell. The bitchy blonde from Julie’s group. She’s being set up as the queen beeyotch, and perhaps she is. But I just love her voice. She has the right look, and I think she’ll make the top 10.

–Corey Clark. The Guarini lookalike. I think they let him into the top 32 because Simon needs a whipping boy. Or because of the Guarini thing. In other words, he’s there to make the show more interesting. I agree his singing wasn’t good.

–Ruben Studdard. The heavyset guy with the great voice. He hasn’t really wowed me, but I’ll be pulling for him because he’s fat. Really.

–Patrick Lake. The rock dude. I love this guy. He can’t win it all, being a rock dude and all, but I think he’ll get a lot of good exposure. Plus, he seems nice. I’m guessing that a lot of the audience are actually rock fans rather than pop fans, so he might do better than expected.

Well, obviously he isn’t. I mean, he is an active-duty Marine. By definition, he meets the physical requirements to be a Marine.

I was happy because the dancer from Florida made it. He was my eye candy. Though I thought his voice was decent, I doubt he’ll pass the next show. Oh well. The rock guy had a surprisingly good voice and the two large black ladies were amazing. Hopefully they will get something out of this, though it’s virtually impossible they’ll win.

Green Bean, great run-down. Howsabout you stick around and tell us the names of all the people we talk about here? (I’ll bookmark this thread and refer back to it, since names just ain’t my thing.)

Aw thanks. But look what was just put up on the FOX site: http://www.idolonfox.com/contestants/frenchiedavis.htm

That’s Frenchie’s page, but there’s a menu where you can choose other contestants to look at.

Candice Coleman…she’s the one who is just ludicrously adorable. She’ll make top ten if her lungs hold out. Wasn’t she the one who did the cutesy-poo stuff with “Fever”?

Re: Frenchie and Ruben: I think that since last year, Simon and whoever he’s speaking on behalf of have rethought the whole “image” factor. Talented people are more of a rarity than beautiful people (not that Frenchie is un-beautiful!). You can always give a talented person a makeover, but what are the odds that a beautiful person will also be talented?

The look on the face of the girl who was excited and pumping her fists into the air was priceless. When she found out that she didn’t make it she had this totally confused look on her face, and then when she realized that she didn’t make it she became all pouty and mad looking. How embarassing.

I think Frenchie and Kim are the best. Frenchie seems to have a larger range…but Kim’s pitch is much better.
