Imgur accounts database hacked

I know that the SDMB Teeming Millions have been recommending Imgur as a picture-hosting resource, now that Photobucket went all extortion-mode. Looks like Imgur let their user database escape several years ago and just now got around to noticing.

From here.

If you have an Imgur account, you were probably already notified to do a password change (assuming your registered email account is still valid, and that you monitor it.)

OTOH, that’s a long time between breach and notice. If you make a (bad) habit of reusing email and password on other sites, and you noticed someone got into one of those sites, this may be why.

Good to know.

Of course, one nice thing about Imgur is that you don’t need an account to toss a picture up on there. That’s not a defense of their hacking or failure to notice/notify but just to say that I’d still recommend them for one-off picture hosting when you just need to illustrate a point with a picture.
