Impending holidays and stuff in the MMP

Thanks for all of the encouraging words about my pre-op diet/impending surgery!

I wound up skipping a meal-replacement shake yesterday. I just wasn’t hungry, and the idea of forcing one down after getting home from being out was hugely unappealing. I have the same lack-o’-hunger issue today, but I’ll have one big shake in a little while; I know the calories/protein are important. When I have everything I’m supposed to, it’s only 980 calories/day.

Good eye! It was taken in the morning, right before her breakfast. It’s my best chance of getting a pitcture of her standing, vs lying on the bed, couch, floor, etc. So she likely was annoyed by the delayed vittles. And on her birthday, too…I’m such a bad doggy steward!

I’d had the name Charlie picked out (for a girl), but my ex wasn’t super crazy about it: when we saw “Bailey” on the rescue group’s website, we both liked the name. Turns out the rescue had only had her for a week or two, so we could have easily renamed her (at 3 months old), but Bailey stuck. Neither of us had any idea how common it is, but I learned when I took her to puppy class (and then doggy daycare). Ah, well. There’s only one of her.

I bought some last year, for the crepe myrtle in my front yard:

Probably a little too big for you to wear, but they exist.

BRING ON THE BABBY STORIES! AND PICTURES!!! :baby: :baby_bottle:

How is Polar these days??

Not really an option. My kitchen has a small eat-in space, but it’s partially taken up by a bookcase that houses my sheet music (it’s right next to the piano). And I do have a cool table that can convert from console-size to six-person, with a bunch of matching folding chairs, but it’s always console-size and pushed under the window and the chairs stay folded in a closet. Leaving it even card-table-size with one chair would take up too much room and be too inconvenient for everyday.

Plus at Christmastime I use it (in console configuration) for decorations, and I’ll be decorating next weekend. Usually I don’t decorate until the weekend after Thanksgiving, but I know I won’t be up for it less than a week after surgery so I decided that I’ll get festive early. I have a collection of Swarovski snowflakes that I only display at the holidays (on the table  ) and I think it will be nice to be able to see them sparkling whenever I’m on the couch while I’m recovering.

My good friend has a collection of those Swarovski snowflakes hat he inherited from his mom. Every year the family gets the newest one, they’re up 18 I think… Years ago she (his mom) asked me to build a display case for them. It’s really nice, if I do say so myself, each snowflake has a little LED light shining on it where they’re hanging on crushed blue velvet. They stay out year round now, and only move when they go on the tree at christmas time.

That sounds awesome, Paintcharge!

I have 13-14 of them. I’ve been collecting Swarovski figurines for a long time, and the snowflakes started as an easy thing for my ex to get me for Christmas (he was horrible at gifts). When we broke up, my awesome best friends started giving them to me every year.

I have a tree-shaped metal ornament display thing — maybe 2’ tall — that I started putting the snowflakes on a couple of years ago. They look pretty good on it. Last year I had the idea to try to light them somehow: I rigged something up, but also bought some small battery-powered tabletop spotlights that I’m looking forward to trying out this year. It does take quite some time to get them all out of their boxes and then pack them up again each year, but for now I kind of like them being a holidays thing.

Someday I’ll have a bigger house, and I might get a second curio cabinet or figure out some way to display them year-round.

It’s been a hard night’s day. I woke up at 3-ish with tummy trouble, and from then on, I was either in the bathroom wishing I were in bed or in the bedroom wishing I were in the bathroom. I’m happily doing much better now, though still queasy.

My problem is that the street parallel to the sidewalk is VERY busy, so there’s no gap in traffic. So I hope they turn on their turn signals but don’t trust any drivers. When people are waiting to turn onto Busy Street (right only–try to make a left and you’ll run out of gas first), I wait until all the cars have turned or until I’m waved on…which I also don’t trust.

And then there are all the drivers who resent the hell outta pedestrians, viewing us as annoying anachronisms who force them to wait as long as 8 seconds, thereby ruining their lives. I get extra-nervous with the cart because I’m afraid people will think I’m homeless, which ticks them off even more.

I wish I could get a flashing squad car light and wear it on my head. That wouldn’t look TOO weird, would it?

FCM: I hope we get frequent Baby Watch 2021 updates tomorrow.

oopsie, thank you! The ones you linked to are too long, but I found some on Amazon that should be just right. Also, I love your table!

shoe, hope plumbing issues get resolved pronto. Your first hot shower will be bliss!

Just like puppies!

Taters, I think a lot of people are in that boat with their parents. It’d be so much easier if your mom were willing to move into a senior residence! There’s only so much you can do, though I know that doesn’t necessarily make you feel better .

Roxy’s just been here around 3 hours and I’m done wore out!!! I ordered Chinese delivery for supper, and I’m counting on an early bedtime. We need to leave at 7:30 in the morning to get her to school by 8. I’ll pack everything tonight and lay out her clothes. Gotta be organized!

Serious question Moooooom: why the additional thermometer when you have AccuWeather?

shoe, when I had cats, I would put a small kitchen trash bag in the litter boxes to line them. Then it was just pull them out, tie them and put them in the bigger trash bag when it was ready to go out. Easy peasy!

I hope that you’re feeling better soonest nellie.

Sunday chores are done, except for supper cleanup. I did a Punjabi chicken curry with a nice cucumber salad to offset the heat. 'Twas good.

See y’all tomorrow!

The thermometer gives me the temperature in my back yard. Accuweather give the temp in a nearby town. They’re rarely exactly the same. I want precision, dammit!

Torrential rains. We’re expecting 1 to 2 inches tonight. We’re enjoying listening to the NOT DRIPPING in the overhead.

Cleaned, did a load of whites, watched handegg, napped with Alex Catt. Having a Vieux Carré while the poke loin cooks.

Alex once passed one that would have been tough for me. Which explained the yowl when it came out.
And yay roof!

Howdy Y’all! We deheathenated and I Verged. The newcomers N.O,L. went well. Got to talk with folks and we had bbq sammiches (bbq from Sonny’s even!), baked beans, mac 'n cheese, a good broccoli sallit that had broccoli (duh!), raisins, pee-kahns, and apples, and chawklit cake, plus tea and lemonade. OYKW was on his own, so he forced himself to go to Longhorn’s to eat. Poor thing, I felt so sorry for him! Nappage occured and the biiiiiiiiiiiiiiiig trash can has been hauled all the way down to the road for pickup tomorrow. Thus endeth Sunday.

Evening all. Apologies for not checking in this morning, had a few things to do and then headed out before 11am to the Cheesecake Factory…to find an hour-long wait for a table, so I gave it up (will try on a weekday) and ended up at 5 Guys, which may not be as fancy but provided plenty of calories. Then went to the park to distribute soccer pictures, a couple of folks who e-mailed me they would be there–weren’t—so I still have 4-5 packets. Will find someway to get them distributed. Then tackleball and internettin’ occupied the balance of the day, and also watched the last half of Big Hero 6 on one of the Disney channels.

FCM, hope the next couple of days aren’t too hectic (even if I know they will be…)

shoe, good luck on the toilet working when you get home.

And too everyone else, hugs and blessings for all, because I want to. Catch all y’all on the next MMP.

Mah terlet works again! Bust out the bran flakes!

… just kidding. I don’t eat rat food.

Three AA batteries. May I ask how long the batteries lasted? Like, did you hafta change them out every week?

I’d love to decorate, but have no outdoor plug. Those are pretty! … and could potentially offer a decorating solution.

Surprisingly long! I keep decorations up from the weekend after Thanksgiving until New Year’s Day, and I only had to replace the batteries once — after about 3 weeks, if I remember correctly. They were on every night, via the built-in timer.

I kind of love these lights: they looked much better in person than I expected, there are several different options for the light patterns, there’s a remote, and they wound up being exactly the right size for the small crepe myrtle. They held up to the weather very well, too: we didn’t get a lot of snow last winter, but it gets pretty cold and there were some windy/freezing rain days. I don’t have an outdoor outlet, either, so I’d never done anything beyond a battery-powered lit wreath on my door, but last year it finally occurred to me to look for battery-powered outdoor lights. I’m looking forward to setting them up again next weekend.

shoe Yay to the plumbing!!

Nothing else to add, see y’all next week.

Roxy crashed a little after 7. Daughter is settled in at the hospital. I’m under the covers about to put down this tablet and try to sleep. Big day tomorrow!

Me, a few hours ago:
“It’s snowing!

Everyone else at work who’s lived here for a bit:
“It’s snowing! :face_with_symbols_over_mouth:
