Importing Text from Word into Powerpoint (Office 2007 versions)

I need to figure out how to import text, maintaining some sort of formatting, into a Powerpoint presentation. What I need to be able to do is start with a sort of standard template, allow manipulation of text, and then import the finished product into a pre-formatted MS Powerpoint set of slides.

I did find at least one link on how to do this in the 2003 version of this software, but it doesn't seem to work quite right when I do this in the newer Office suite.

For example, I might start with a page(s) of text like this:

My name is [Name].
My favorite TV Show is [TV Show]
My favorite books are:
[Book1]
[Book2]
[Book3]
Biography:
[Name] has over [YearsExp] years making up silly Powerpoint slides. He likes long walks on the beach, movies that make him cry, and double fudge chunk ice cream.

By filling in the variables, this should become:

My name is Shibb.
My favorite TV Show is C-Span.
My favorite books are:

  • The Yearling
  • Captain Underpants
  • Big Book of Lists
    Biography:
Shibb has over 0.3 years making up silly Powerpoint slides. He likes long walks on the beach, movies that make him cry, and double fudge chunk ice cream.

Then, importing into Powerpoint this might become two Powerpoint slides looking roughly like this:

My name is Shibb
My favorite TV Show is C-Span.
My favorite books are:
[ul]The Yearling[/ul]
[ul]Captain Underpants[/ul]
[ul]Big Book of Lists[/ul]

**
Biography:
Shibb has over 0.3 years making up silly Powerpoint slides. He likes long walks on the beach, movies that make him cry, and double fudge chunk ice cream.**

Obviously not an actual example, but hopefully it gets my point across.

Thanks,

Shibb

No one? I must hold the SDMB record for stumping the Boards.

Are you looking for an auto-import feature VS just copy and pasting yourself? Also do you have an example of what the failed import you have looks like?

Yes, an auto import function. I did find that if you use the Heading features in Word then this will work to an extent. Might be enough for now.

It sounds like you may have stumbled upon this method: Microsoft Support

That’s all I could come up with. WOuld it be possible to create a macro to execute this?

I’m going to check, but I think I’ll probably have too many things changing around to use a macro.
