impromptu snacks...

For me, they usually involve cheese on some kind of starch plane, heated in the microwave. Currently, it’s mozzerella on rice cakes, with garlic powder and cayenne pepper.

What do you throw together to snack on when there’s not much to eat in the house, and you’re too lazy to go to the store?

“Impromptu snacks”?

So that’s what you kids are calling it these days!

I just finished eating melted swiss on white bread with mustard and BBQ sauce.

Put 2 pieces of bread in the toaster and toast them. The instant they pop out, put a slice of reduced-fat (NOT fat-free) American cheese on one piece of bread and cover the cheese with the other piece of bread, i.e. make a sandwich out of it. Put the whole thing in the microwave for 30 seconds, and bingo! Instant grilled cheese sandwich, and you didn’t even have to use any butter.

Damn. I thought this thread was going to be about stuff I’ve eaten just because I didn’t want to get up and get real food.

I like improvisational nachos. There’s always tortilla chips and at least one kind of cheese.

The proper structure is 1 layer of chips, 1 layer of cheese, then another layer of chips, and a mixed top layer.

From there, you add liberal amounts of whatever you feel like eating at the moment. Some suggestions:

another kind of cheese. I find one white kind and one orange/yellow kind go well together.

lunchmeat, torn into little strips

salsa

jalapenos

fruit slices. Thin slices of apple work well.

mustard. but go easy.
