In honour of George, post your fave Harrison song

Doesn’t it, though? I just got back from walking across town to another office, while playing IATM in my head. The tune was making me juke as I walked, all the while feeling incredibly sad about George’s death. How odd - feeling happy and sad simultaneously. The same thing is going to happen at lunchtime when I listen to another Harrison favorite, For You Blue.

Ah, George. The fabbest of the Fab Four, IMHO.

[ol][]Across the Universe[]While My Guitar Gently Weeps[]If I Needed Someone[]Give Me Love[/ol]

Oops. My goof. “Across the Universe” is Lennon, isn’t it?

OK, then I’ll substitute “All Those Years Ago.”

Oh, man. That put a lump in my throat.

Sheri

Ah, sorry, spoke, but Universe is John Lennon.

My fave is Piggies

In no particular order:

“Something”

“Here comes the Sun”

“Old Brown Shoe”

“While My Guitar Gently Weeps”

and

“I Got My Mind Set On You” (Wilburys) - now I know this last one is not musically in the same league as the others, but when it came out it just felt very good to hear George’s voice on the radio again and the feeling has stayed with me whenever I hear the song.

Singing Something quietly to myself helped get me my first long-term girlfriend ever.

Singing I Need You out loud with a cheesy grin on a long distance road trip helped get my wife to fall in love with me.

Not only are these my favourite Harrison songs, they’re two of my favourite Beatles songs as well. Dammit, I’ve almost started crying 4 times now.

'ta, George.

I hate to admit it, but me too. I’m usually not so sentimental.

I agree with most of the songs picked above, but I would also like to add ** For You Blue** off of Let it Be.“Elmore James has nothing on this cat”…

Keith

i like the whole “all things must pass” album, so i’ll say thats my favorite. i really love “something” also, and have always considered George my favorite beatle.

thanks to the poster who credited George for his contributions to the film world also. these films are as significant as his music. (George has a cameo in “life of Brian”!)

strange footnote: i pulled up MSN homepage and they have a picture of George, smiling and wearing raybans that looks JUST LIKE ME! it kinda creeped me out, but now i guess thats pretty damn cool!

Here Comes the Sun gets my vote. I’m listening to the Traveling Wilburys now and hear his lovely voice singing:

*My shoes are wearing out from walking down this same highway
I don’t see nothing new but I feel a lot of change
And I get the strangest feeling, as I’m
Heading for the light

I see the sun ahead, I ain’t never looking back
All the dreams are coming true as I think of you
Now there’s nothing in the way to stop me
Heading for the light*

[sub]Of course, George would appreciate a dose of black humor, so: Now my advice for those who die, declare the pennies on your eyes. Taxman![/sub]

Very sad day. :frowning:

Of course we remember the lawsuit.
But He’s So Fine doesn’t come close to the beauty of My Sweet Lord with its excellent harmonizing guitar lead and deeply spiritual lyrics.
Why can’t this be my fave Harrison song?

Give Me Love has always been a special gem for me and I am glad that others like it. I like all of George’s hits, they had a Beatles type catchiness to them. But I’ve got one that nobody (I think) has mentioned yet:

Crackerbox Palace

Sorry GoBear, missed it. But it is one of my favorites, if not my favorite…

You bring such joy
to Crackerbox Palace

~~I’m the only one who likes Savoy Truffel the best?

you’ll have to have them all pulled out after the savoy truffel
I really like the backing and the drums, I can’t remember
if that’s Ringo or Paul on drums, but I like it…

You know, I was doing OK with George’s death until I read this, Enola. But you said it best.

Best George song (and my favorite Abbey Road song) is Here Comes the Sun.

While I’ll probably go along with While My Guitar Gently Weeps as my favorite, I’ve always had an odd but enduring affection for another Harrison/Clapton collaboration - Badge. Something abou that simple but elegant opening bass line is very affecting for me.

A great loss :frowning: . And while I’m here, I’ll put in a word of praise for his film company, Handmade Films, which put out some fine, at times idiosyncratic, stuff over the years ( Like personal favorite, The Long Good Friday ).

  • Tamerlane

Pantellerite, you and I have exquisite taste!

I’ve always thought that Let it Roll and Beware of Darkness could have been bigger hits if they had more “mainstream” lyrics rather than the spiritual and personal lyrics that George wrote however they are certainly gems as they stand.

Here Comes The Sun is IMHO a perfect song: you couldn’t change a note or a word without diminishment (starting to sound like F. Murray Abraham in Amadeus).

also:

Long, Long, Long - a haunting song from the White Album with an eerie, unsettling ending.

and finally, appropriately:

That is All

That is all I want to say
Our love could save the day
That is all I’m waiting for
To try to love you more -

  • and that is all I want to do
To get right next to you
That is all I’m living for,
    Your love and nothing more
    And that is all

Times I find it hard to say
With useless words getting in my way
Silence often says much more
Than trying to say what’s been said before.

That is all I want from you
A smile when I feel blue

That is all I’m waiting for
Your love and nothing more

And that is all

Silence often says much more
Than trying to say what’s been said before.
But that is all I want to do
To give my love to you
That is all I’m living for,
Please let me love you more -

And that is all

I realize that, gobear. I wasn’t clear but meant that because Blackbird was playing when I learned of his death, whenever I hear it I’ll always think of him. Thanks for making the point though.

And yes, I firmly agree with you about Old Brown Shoe.

I really love George’s “Long, Long, Long” from the White Album. Really haunting song. We will miss you, George.
