In Memoriam -- Nov. 4, 1995 -- Yet Another Depressing MMP

Congrats on a job well done, Rebo!

BooFae, I’ll be sure to check that author out. But in the meantime SOMEONE MAKE ME STOP. The Anita books are like crack! Gah!

PurpleKid, I still don’t know what you look like, since I couldn’t get past the cleavage.

Caffeination done, and brekkie et. There are reports of that strange stuff falling from the sky headed our way, too.

VWife will be driving to 2 medical appointments by herself today. Last night I bought her a cane so she can get away from using her walker. I’m glad I’m honest, because Wally World didn’t put any price tags on it; I could have gimped my way through checkout with it in my hand and nobody would have been the wiser.

SwampBeer, are you still in mourning after being moved off 3rd shift?

Morning! Caffeinated, largely conscious, and noticing the bright sun outside. I hope it stays that way at least 'til my morning break; it’s supposed to rain at some point, and tomorrow threatens a bit of snow.

Know what I hate? Finding a really great resource for something in particular – really, the best resource and forum for what you’re interested in – but finding that the a lot, possibly even a majority, of its active members are … how can I put this charitably? Morons. Oh, the folks who are helping out – the ones who know stuff and design stuff and program stuff and moderate the forums – are great, they’re helpful and intelligent and generally well spoken. A great deal of the rest of the membership (not counting the foreign ESL members whose lack of skill in that department is perfectly understandable) couldn’t string together three words without misspelling or abbreviating two of them, they can’t read (evidenced by repeatedly asking the same questions and making the same requests that were answered in the same thread barely one page earlier, and two, and four, and five – and have become so common that they have their own stickies on the main page for that sub-forum), and they can’t follow simple instruction. This is nobody’s fault of course, this particular subject seems to attract a very wide variety of people and it’s a public forum, but having spent so much time here it just makes wading through the pages of dross to get to the good stuff seem that much more arduous and frustrating.

The Dope has spoiled me.

Jeez, that sounds pompous.

Rebo - I actually don’t mind grocery shopping. But I have to do it alone, because I do the Man on a Mission thing. I go in with a list and methodically (if somewhat haphazardly – I’m determined, just not very organized) go about checking everything off of that list. I don’t suffer delays or distractions well, so taking someone along that results in repeated instances of “Oh, wait, I want to check over here for something” every few aisles just ticks me off. It’s okay if I went in there with the intent to browse leisurely and meander, just not when I’ve got stuff to get done. I also hate it when it’s insanely crowded. Not because I hate crowds so much as that for every 10 people in that crowd, one of them is going to piss you off by A) Parking their cart in the middle of the aisle so you can’t pass until they notice you trying to get by, which they almost never do, B) Walking their cart in the middle of the aisle at three inches a minute and won’t let you pass even if they do notice you, C) Spending fifteen whole minutes blocking the entire soup section while trying to figure out the difference between the Progresso minestrone and the Campbell’s, D) Blocking the entire soup section because it is apparently conducive to looking for a particular spice at the other end of the aisle, or E) Letting their five year old kid push the cart at a 30° angle to the aisle as fast as he can possibly push it even though he can’t see over the handlebar and is apparently navigating by echolocation through repeated screeching.

Aside from that, I don’t mind shopping at all. (This only turned into a rant I think because the opening of a local Really Big Superstore killed off my usual shopping place which was cheaper, but whose customers have now had to migrate to said superstore and resulted in it being overcrowded half the time.)

Oddly enough, none of this applies nearly as much when I go Christmas shopping (unless it’s near to closing time and I really need to get everything I went there to get before they kick me out.). But then, I’m a Christmas nutter.

Congrats on the design though! It’s always pretty awesome to have a proposal accepted more or less verbatim. Lets you know you’re doing it right.

Okay, off to break.

I love grocery shopping too, but Cloud Maiden hates it, for some reason. Or she just barely tolerates it. At least one of us has fun.

How can grocery shopping not be fun? (Assuming I’m doing it on my own, anyway.) It’s food! Food is good! Food is fun!

Ha ha, MT. You should see me vacuum at work. I do it a lot. You think your house has a lot of dog hair???

Next week it’s gonna get cold. Single digits overnight cold. I volunteered for this, I must be crazy!

I really like this phrase.

I love grocery shopping. Especially wandering around grocery shopping. Provided I have money to spend on random things. While I was in college, I once went for a long walk to de-stress (it was the height of exam time) and came back with $20 of assorted bread products. I know we ate some of it. I love bakeries.

Dinner last night was pizza, followed by some of the icewine the inlaws bought us last Christmas. I had about an eighth of a cup. I feel very rebellious.
Doping for a bit, and then maybe I’ll scrub the kitchen. I want to get it reorganized, but I can’t really do that until the stove is fixed and moved back, and Attacks Husband has done his promised carpentry. He’s putting new shelves up this weekend.

I survived the grocery store. MinDude I use a list too. My goal being get in there and out of there ASAP. Today was pretty easy. Not too crowded and I even got a check out lane with nobody else in it! YAY!!! I’m now all stocked up. Even for Thanksgiving. Well, except for the collards which I am getting fresh out of a friend’s garden this weekend. Yep, I gotta pick 'em but that’s a small price to pay for fresh, free collard greens. What? I lurves me some collard greens!

Yay on the good job Rebo! It’s nice when somebody actually notices it, ain’t it?

BBBobbio I cry myself to sleep every night. :stuck_out_tongue:

I do my weekly grocery shopping on Saturday mornings. I neither like nor dislike doing it. It’s just a chore I don’t mind doing. I’m with mork, though and have to do it alone. I have a list, know what’s in the isles and what I need, and I walk pretty darn fast between items.

We are getting that huge cold front starting today and we are expected to get the coolest weather of the season so far starting tomorrow. Bleh! :stuck_out_tongue:

rebo, congrats! Nice to get feedback like that!

palebunny, get mittens. They are warmer than gloves.

li-li, waking up early is Mother Nature’s way of telling you that you will never sleep late AGAIN!!!

I wish it were Firday. This week is dragging since I am off all next week. :frowning:

Tupug

Hi, everybody. I’ve been up for quite a while, but not feeling particularly chipper – we had a weather front move through, and Rusty freaked out about 6:30 this morning so I had to get up and crash on the couch with him. When he finally settled down, I tried going back to bed, but he was still too nervous so I only dozed. So I’m feeling very tired and grumpy today. I may even break down and take a nap; we’ll see.

I hope you guys in Georgia and the Carolinas get some of that wet stuff! we’re getting it right now; it’s not only wet, but cold wet. And the temp is dropping as we speak; it’s already quite a bit colder than when I got up this morning.

Congrats on doing such a good job, Rebo! It’s nice to get such positive feedback, isn’t it?

I don’t mind grocery shopping, as long as I can go by myself and move at my own pace. I cannot stand going with Papa Tigs – he’s a serious comparison shopper, and will take 15 minutes deciding which item/brand to buy. Drives me up the wall. If I can move at my own pace, though, I’m pretty quick and efficient – as long as they haven’t rearranged the entire store, which happens far too frequently for my tastes.

Back to vegging. And trying to wake up. Which is probably a lost cause at this point, but I might as well try.

We got a small amount of rain last night - I think the ground just slurped it all up. I slept in this morning - I woke up at 6 but went back to sleep. I have to get up in the morning for Mr. SCL’s cousin’s funeral so I will be back on my sleep schedule.

Off to mail back the fake jersey. Back later.

Mama Tigs, you wouldn’t like to go shopping with me. I comparison shop and look at coupons and everything. But really it doesn’t take me that long to go shopping since I have my list made and most of the coupons that I want to use pulled out.

I enjoy going grocery shopping. I enjoy finding the best deal and using my coupons and such. Hubby typically does go with me, but he’s very patient, if he wasn’t, I would leave him at home, LOL. I’ve offered to do the grocery shopping myself, but he enjoys going, so it’s all good.

Last night we ran to Target because I had a bunch of coupons to match with their sales. I got $60.36 (regular price items) for $8.85. I was impressed with myself, LOL. Granted this wasn’t our typical shopping trip, it was a special one just to grab the on sale items that we truly didn’t need, but buy on a regular basis and will use.

I’m working today, it’s quiet. I LOVE my new job. Plus I get good eye candy now.

See, if you have your list and your coupons all ready, that’s no problem.

It’s just that shortly after Papa Tigs and I were married, I went shopping with him. He decided he wanted to buy bacon. Okay, fine. He picked up a package of a brand he liked, it looked nice and lean, I figured he’d take it and keep moving.

Wrong, grasshopper! He then proceeded to put it back and look – I swear I am not making this up – at every single package of bacon on the shelves.

After ten minutes, I gave up and sat down on the floor and leaned against the cooler to relax.

Five minutes or so later, he finally decided which one he wanted. Guess which one it was?

Yup, the very first one he’d picked up.

:smack: :smack: :smack: :smack: :smack: :smack: :smack: :smack: :smack:

That’s when I decided we needed to shop separately. For my sanity’s sake.

Mr. Lissar gets this hunted look, and you can see his blood pressure going up. He gets all twitchy.

He almost never grocery shops with me. I think maybe four times in almost five years.

Tupug, I beat Mother Nature! I went back to sleep.
The kitchen is much cleaner. I think I should have a peanut butter sandwich for lunch- we’re going out to a Chinese buffet with my parents and aunt and uncle, and I don’t want to eat too much beforehand. More room for chicken balls.

Mama Tigs, I couldn’t deal with that!!! I would insist on separate shopping as well if I had to deal with that. I don’t have enough patience to do. I would have gone on to do other shopping and went back to find him when I was done, lol.

Normally, I would, McUne, but that time I was curious to see if my sitting there would actually cause him to hurry up at all. As I discovered, it didn’t. So these days I just let him go shopping by himself. He’s a guy who adores shopping, and taking his time doing it – not just groceries, but clothes, etc. – so I send him out by himself whenever possible. If we’re just going to browse through shops, that’s a different story; but if he’s looking for something specific, my sanity is definitely saved by staying home.

Have you seen this thread?

That’s why I’m so relieved - it’s like a month or two of design iterations. Yay!

Pizza was had for lunch - al fresco! It’s so nice out - I wanna go home!

Way hey, tow them away!
The Lincoln Park Pirates are we!

Did someone just decide on a whim “Hey, let’s make the whole area no parking tonight!” or was there an appropriate advance notice and people just ignored it at their peril?

What kind of rope do you use with those? The frightening thing is, and someone else mentioned it a page or two ago, is that they’re not new. My mother had a pair of similarly sized tent stakes, er… knitting spikes in BRIGHT ORANGE plastic with **BRIGHT PINK ** ends back in the 70s. She probably still has them in the downstairs closet along with a few thousand 35mm slides, 17 years worth of National Geographic and the crockpot.

Congrats, Rebo!! Ya done good!

I’m sorry, Purp, but that can’t possibly be your picture. In my mind, you have short, straight, dark brown hair. That’s how I envisioned you, and that’s the way it is. So you just take care of it, OK?

Today was a very very boring day at work. Plus it started out soggy, then got cold, and I was only wearing a light cardigan so I had a chilly walk to the car after work. But when I got home, I put in the last of the storm windows, so we’re good for the winter. I can’t wait till we get good replacement windows. This storm window/storm door exercise is a pain.

Dunno when **FCD ** will get home, so I don’t know whether to make dinner or not. Maybe I’ll just thaw a sack o’soup. Quick and easy - just like most Mumpers.

Skim, skim…

Driveby. Appropriate reactions all around – spent all day (13 hours worth of it!) on a company day trip. I’m not even complaining much – it was actually quite fun. But now it’s late, I haven’t been online in 24 hours and am developing withdrawal syptoms, and I’m tired!

Oh well…

I hate groecery shopping, but letting my kids or the husband do it leads to junk food in the house and no money in the wallet. I’ll be glad when I’m only shoppning for one (or two).

Back from a good day at work. Got another letter from the collection agency. For an “outstanding” bill for $3.54–that I paid on 9/14 and the check cleared 9/19.
I hate morons. It cost them more to chase that “unpaid” debt than the debt. Also, it wasn’t overdue even! Grrrrr.

Mac n cheese in oven. Very tired. Almost no sleep last night and no post work nap. Thank god for the writer’s strike–I wouldn’t be able to stay up for my daily dose of Jon and Stephen.
