Damn, just seeing this thread. I too will miss him, and would be very interested in donating to a memorial.
I reached out to the Smithsonian Tropical Research Institute and they gave their enthusiastic assent to the idea of a gift. They suggested we fund a short-term fellowship for a master’s or doctoral candidate to do fieldwork with STRI in Panama (usually). I thought this sounded like a great idea - George had begun with STRI as a research fellow. I said we could probably raise at least $5K (we raised $8K for Jenny’s memorial); they thought this was a good amount.
If there is general agreement on the above, I’ll get a GoFundMe campaign going. Let me know.
