Colibri has died

Moderator Colibri (George) has died.

George, you were my SDMB mentor and a good friend. You will be missed.

My condolences to his family and to all who knew him.

RIP. You will be missed.

Does anyone know what happened to him? Wasn’t he the Doper who lived in Panama?

Yes, he lived in Panama. I do not know the cause of death.

Oh my God. I’m so sorry.

My condolences to his family and loved ones.

I was saddened to hear the news. I’m sorry I never got the chance to meet him in person, but I will never forget our interactions online. I had the pleasure to be word with him on the SDSAB and in moderating General Questions for several years. He was one of the smartest and most interesting people I’ve ever known. He was probably my all-time number-one favorite poster here. We won’t soon see his like again.

Here’s a great photo of him, doing what he did best:

He was one of my faves and any post he made discussing birds I read with an extra dose of interest. I’ll miss him.

Sad news!

Such sad news. One of the people who made the SDMB great. He will be sorely missed.

Sorry to hear this. Condolences.

This is sad; clearly a well-informed, lovely chap.

Oh, no. I liked and admired him. Such sad news.

I’m so sorry to hear this. He will be missed.

I’m shocked. When I saw the thread title I assumed it was some sort of play on the name or some form of joke. What terrible news! He will be missed by all who knew him. I know nothing of his personal life but he was a source of knowledge, wisdom, and good guidance here on the SDMB.

Oh no! The name Colibri is almost synonymous with SDMB. What a loss. It’s also a loss to the scientific community and the world. I had no idea of his work with the Smithsonian.

He will be missed.

Exactly my thoughts. What are we going to do without him?

I am so sorry to read that, what a sad way to start the day. My condolences to his family and friends. Who will curate the critters now?

Shocking news. My condolences. May he rest in peace.
(Didn’t his mother die fairly recently?)

I’m bummed. All my condolences to everyone in his life.

Terrible news. The boards won’t be the same without him.

RIP our resident ornithologist. Thanks for all your help and moderation in the science threads.
