In Northeast U.S., Nemo finds YOU!

Time to stock up on your milk, bread, and TP, if you live in NJ, NY, or New England - Winter Storm Nemo is coming!

Yep. I just returned from the grocery store. I did not need anything. I went because I believe it is my obligation to buy stuff before a storm. The dog is happy. I bought him some new peanut butter treats! They look and smell so good!

I didn’t know this, but apparently the name “Nemo” has absolutely no official connection whatsoever; it’s just something the Weather Channel made up out of whole cloth to sound exciting and catch eyeballs.

Seems kinda cheap to me. Hope it doesn’t start a trend of every storm system getting a name from the media. Imagine every major news outlet getting to make up their own name!

When did they start naming blizzards?

I’ve got food, enough TP to service a regiment, and gas for the snowblower. I’m ready.

This year. And as Leaper noted, ‘they’ is the Weather Channel in this case.

"Historic Blizzard’? To us just upwind in Ontario, this is ‘normal’.

“Nemo” is Latin for "nobody. " just thought I’d add that.

Actually, it’s not really unusual down there, either. But “typical snowstorm for Boston and New York” doesn’t get people’s attention or hold viewers.

And most of the ones they’ve named so far haven’t been anything extraordinary; just your usual winter shows drummed up to increase TWC’s profile and ratings. Whenever I read one of the names, I therefore get really stabby. Even if it looks like it’s going to be big.

If it really hits 2 ft in downtown Boston, that’ll be pretty historic actually. They appear to be toning down the total expected snowfall amounts this morning however.

Wait-A Storm Without a Name?

What’s with the runs on milk and bread when a major storm is impending? I’ve never understood that. Neither one are non-perishable items, and how many things can you make out of milk and bread? I can only eat so much French Toast. Why not stock up on things that you will actually eat and enjoy?

CT here. Supposed to be getting 1.5 to 2.0 feet of snow.

I actually did buy milk and bread yesterday in preparation for the storm. Milk is for hot chocolate. When it is snowing hard, hot chocolate tastes even better. The bread is because I like bread. I didn’t need to buy meats and veggies because I already had enough for the weekend.

Went to the grocery last night approx. 7:30PM. No milk left, very little bread. People go nuts around here because of the blizzard of1978. Apparently RI still relied on weather reports conveyed by pony express back then and no one was aware it was coming.

Every time I see “Winter Storm Nemo,” for some reason I hear Dory’s voice in my head, “Just keep snowing, just keep snowing, just keep snowing snowing snowing.” It’s actually getting kind of annoying. :smack:

Our local supermarket was out of milk this morning as well.

Bread is for sandwiches when the power goes out and we can’t cook. Milk and other perishables get stored outside on the porch.

I don’t mind not having heat when the power goes out because we have wood stoves. But I sure as heck mind not being able to bath for the duration.

Hopefully we in RI have advanced enough that everyone is aware of this one. Stay safe and warm TP, hopefully we all get through this ok.

We’ll try to keep the lights on…

TWC’s gimmicks are another reason I get weather info from the National Weather Service.

Bah. I sneer at Nemo.
