Indeed, it’s spinning right over us. Fortunately I get up and spin widdershins every few minutes, so I’m not too dizzy. ![]()
We lost power around 4:30 AM, generator kicked on within 15 seconds, still chugging away
And… Power came back on at around 8:45 AM
Dunno what changed at Central Maine Power, but with the last few storms, their power restoration have been exemplary, and this storm was no exception, kudos to the CMP line crews, in the past, CMP would have taken at least 10+ days to restore power to our street after a storm only half as powerful as Nemo
Still can’t compare to '76 and '78, close though…
We’re up to 2 feet, with another 3 inches or so predicted. Still have power though, and the winds have died down, so hopefully it’ll just be a hunker down with movies/cocoa/whiskey kind of day.
I am extremely relieved that we did not lose power at all. Whew. Now I’m just waiting for the blowing to die down to begin my foray into the white. Looks like about two feet here - although hard to say for sure with all the drifting.
I second the kudos for CMP - we used to lose power when my husband sneezed hard when we first moved here - now we rarely lose it even in big storms. And if we do lose it, it is back on quickly.
Hey! I’m in Augusta right now too! Scary drive in here from Winslow this AM…
And I thought Little Nemo was going to a Dopefest,
Wow - I can’t believe you had to be out driving! It was scary just shoveling off my deck!
If I had realized how bad the 95 was gonna be, I’da called in to work… but once I was committed it would have been just as dangerous to turn around and go home.
Belfast, ME, reporting in: WE GOT SNOW. Drifts like crazy around our condo – 3+ feet in many areas (including by the garage on the way out to the snowed-in vehicles in the parking lot) … we got snow dunes, dudes!
Still snowing and blowing as of 12:43 pm. No power outages yet (electric), heat by two Rennai propane stove-thingys with outside vents. One iced over & heat stopped. Unclogged it & it’s now working. The other one (in a drift field) is still clear. So far.
It would be a very ugly trudge to unclog it.
We are about 100 yards from Belfast Bay. Water views.
Had apple pie for breakfast; making New England baked beans (duh) for some future time when they’re done.
Wow, I’m impressed with that gadget! Charges from solar or AC, has 120vac, 12vdc, and multiple USB outlets, and it looks like it can supply power at the same time as it’s solar charging as long as your cord will reach to the panels. Quieter than a gas generator.
Steep price, though, $2K, and the battery probably has a life measured in a few years.
Let us know if you get one and how it works IRL.
The official measurement in my front yard? Fourteen inches. I want that groundhog grilled and sauteed.
Portland proper. I can barely get the dog outdoors to pee. The blown snow at the door is higher than his head. (And we’re not talking no Chee-hoo-a-hoo-a, either. He’s a Cattledog.)
My so-called “hi-profile” vehicle is barely visible in its parking spot. The way the wind is blowing has it covered except for the back passenger window. I have a photo but not sure how to show it here.
Anyway, power on, some plowing going on, and I could walk to a grocery store if I had to. Sounds pointless though if they won’t have those two critical items, bread and milk.
I couldn’t eat the filthy animal but I will go in with you on a taxidermist.
Here in coastal CT (New Haven) we got 34 inches. That’s the biggest snow storm since I moved here in '82. All roads are officially closed per the governor. I’ve made one pass actually one partial pass down my driveway with my snow blower. Snow is higher than it is except for the actual throwing nozzle (what’s that called?) and in some places higher than that.
We do have internet (cable), power, and phone.
Whoa! 34 inches is the most I’ve heard, though Iknow CT is supposed to have gotten the most snow. Guy, I’d say congratulations but I guess it isn’t really a contest you want to win…
Just laze about, don’t fret. --tapu in maine
When I took my dog out this morning, he looked at me like, “Why are you DOING this to me??”
Drool doesn’t mean buy
I am more inclined to get this biolite stove and use it for charging our electronics at camp.
Hang on, sending mrAru out to measure the snow in the yard by the house. He is of course grumbling about cold, and snow and shit
So we have 26 inches - he picked an area that didn’t seem to have any drift action going on. He did drop into a ditch while going out to feed the geese that came up to chest deep [he is 5’7] though.
We - Augusta, ME - got just about 20 inches. I done went an’ snowblowed it all too. That was tiring! I even cleared the chicken pen out - not that they took a step out of the coop. Roads haven’t been kept up - so there are drifts all over. Barely passable.
My place didn’t seem too bad when I was looking out the windows. The snow never seemed to be coming down that hard, and none of the places I could see looked very deep.
Until I went outside. The landlord did most of the driveway already, but I had to get my own car out. It really depends where the wind was blowing. The snow is several feet deep on the leeward side of the garage, other places are almost bare. There’s no good place to take a measurement, but I’d guess 18-24 inches. I still probably dodged the worst of it.
