In NYC May 5-7

Well, it’s official. I’ll be arriving at LaGuardia (alas) at 7:51, in the PM, on 5/7. I’ll be in town for The New Yorker Festival, and will wind up having some free time. I would very much like to hook up with some of the residents whilst I am there, and was wondering if that might be a possibility?

My availability (such as it will be) is as follows:

Anytime late Friday (5/5) i.e. anytime after I make my way into the city from the airport.

Anytime after 5:00 PM on Saturday (5/6)

And I could do a breakfast/brunch on Sunday (5/7) My flight will be leaving 4:00 PM.

So, what say any/all of you residents of NYC? I could even buy a round or two. Maybe three or four. I’m easy.

I’d love to meet ya GL, but I’ll be on a beach in Mexico that week. Sorry.

Pork is not a verb.

You’re offering to buy us drinks?? You’re going to regret that, trust me.

But I’d love to hang out. Do you like discussing saxophones? Just kidding.

Well, yeah, I’m offering to buy drinks. At no point did I say that the evening would be entirely on my dime, though. I walk into any situation with drinkers assuming that they are professionals of at least my own caliber.

And I’ve actually been known to break a reed or two. So, yeah, I could talk about saxophones. If, that is, doing so wouldn’t cause undue distress to any others who may be there. I’m nothing if not polite.

Leave for a while, and this thing sinks without a trace.

So, what say you Kings of New York, you Princes(ses) of other boroughs?

Jeez, if I can’t get a meeting together with the offer of free booze, then offering myself is definitely out.

You do not have to buy all my drinks. I don’t want to ruin you.
Be more specific about the when and the where.

Sorry, Biggirl. The Man has been on me to actually accomplish some of the things that I am allegedly paid to do. Alack and alas…

I could meet with yiz guys late Friday night, but don’t imagine that anyone will want to gather after 9:00 PM. Saturday night, which would wind up being ideal for me, but I really kinda wanted to meet cmkeller, and understand that he would not be able to make it. Or, I could do a brunch sort of thing on Sunday, since my flight won’t be leaving until 4:00.

So, any of the above would be just ducky with me. If any (or all) of you might deign to meet with me, I will buy some of the drinks. And if the gathering is small enough, I might even buy all night long.

GLW:

Sorry to bag on you, but I’m outta town on a business trip to DC that weekend. Have a cocktail for me.

Uke

Damn shame, Ike. I was looking forward to meeting you. However, I shall most assuredly have one for you. Particularly since you won’t be around for me to have one on you.

Enjoy that business trip as much as you possibly can.

At this point I am fairly free that weekend, but there are a couple of things that could come up. I’d love to meet you and all of the NYDopers again, though I wouldn’t schedule anything around me. I’ll show up if I can, though.

Well, Billdo, if you’re up for any of the aforementioned times, then lemme know. I’m trying to keep things as informal as possible, simply because I’d like to meet as many folk as are able to be there.

GL, your’e arriving at a great time. friday nite you say? head down to Herban Kitchen. 290 Hudson, corner of Spring and Hudson. it’s Frida Kahlo (sp?) nite for cinco de mayo. end the world with a nite of beer tasting.

Thanks, soul, but I’m not at all sure if I’ll be up for a night of the hops after my long, arduous trek into the city.

Right now, it looks like the best time to meet is going to be Saturday night. As far as where, or at what time, I leave that up to those of you who will be available. I realize that I won’t be able to meet cmkeller, but maybe another time.

I look forward to seeing yiz guys on Saturday night!

Alright folks, we’ve got 5 days to pin this down. All of my favorite haunts are in the boroughs, so somebody come up with a place in The City where we can drink and talk (Perhaps eat, I, myself don’t need to, but others may want to).
Well? What are you waiting for?

Ok. I’ll pick a place and time and that’ll be that. Give me a few minutes to look through a Zagat’s. I wouldn’t dream of taking an out-of-town guest to the places I usually frequent.

I can’t for the life of me remember what I’m supposed to be doing this weekend–but I am sure I am supposed to do something important. If I can make it, I will surely be there with bells on.

And Sax, not only am I a full 25% Latvian, I am a sax player as well. Or I should say, an ex-sax player. I got tired of shlepping that huge case on the school bus, and quit after one semester. Well, the case seemed huge–I was only in 3rd grade. I did love suckin’ on those reeds, tho.

GreenBean:

'Twould be grand. I look forward to meeting you.

Now see here! I play the sax. Have done so for 20 or so years, as a matter of fact. But am I to believe that I need Latvian heritage, too? Because it’s going to be very difficult to arrange for at this late date. And I would hate to think that I wasn’t allowed in due to the common gutter blood in my veins.

Maybe we should be meeting at the Latvian Village Vanguard. Just kidding. Manny, bring some earplugs.

How’s this?

Who: Everyone/Anyone

Where: Dempsey’s (ok, I’m too lazy to pick a new place - we can always bar hop) located at 61 Second Avenue (between 3rd and 4th)

When: Saturday, May 6th at 8 p.m.

See you there.

Sounds keen, Sax. All thanks for coordinating.

If I took the PATH train into World Trade Center from NJ, what is the best subway line and stop for Dempsey’s from there?
