NYC Needs Dope!

Calling all Tri-state area dopers (and anyone willing to drive or fly across country ;)).

I think it’s time to try to put another NYC dopefest together, since the last few I missed,(yes, it’s all about ME).

I know Green Bean (welcome to our little salad bar, BTW) said she would be up for it.

BluTwylite? Alpha, manny, Uke, Eve, Saxface??

Here’s what I can tell ya, Democritus is flying out the weekend of April 15/16, I’ll be driving down (I’m central PA nowadays), so the date I guess is kind of set. I don’t care where as long as I can drink. Green Bean suggested somewhere in the East Village. Works for me.

Basically, Dem and I will be in the NYC area that weekend, so if anyone out there would like to spend a few hours drinking and fill in blank, suggest a place and time and we’re there.

I like it here-can I stay?
And do you have a vacancy for a Back-scrubber?

That weekend is good for me, and my dear brother Billdo as well.

If I’m in town that weekend, I’m game.

I usually avoid Manhattan (esp. East Village) bars on the weekends, though, because it’s difficult to get a drink, harder to get place to sit, and damn near impossible to get a shot on the pool table.

I’d look to Manny as the person who might know of a good place to chill.

oooh, I’m so excited. As it just so happens, I’m driving down to visit my godfather the 14th through the 16th! Count me in!

Hey, here’s a problem, I’m but a mere 20.

You know what I just thought of? What if John John shows up?

I’m not at all set on the East Village. We could do it anywhere in Manhattan. Let’s hear some suggestions. Maybe we can come up with a place where we can drink, but where the under-21s can also join us. Perhaps a place that is more “restaurant” than “bar.”

Bill–you’ve done your share of bar-crawling. What do you think?

A restaurant sounds great, I can go anywhere in Manhattan as well.

Ohhh, goody!
I live in Pig Slop. . . I mean Park Slope.
Lots of nice places to sit and talk there. Are we talking about dinner, drinks or just a nice place that’ll hold all 3 of us? I suggest Harry Bolen’s on 9th St btwn 4th and 5th Ave in Brooklyn. Or anywhere. I can ride the train.
Hey SwimmingRiddles, want to meet me son?

Biggirl - Uke and I also live in Park Slope (separately, of course). I prefer Loki or The Gate to Harry Bolen’s, but I doubt we’ll get any New Jersey or Manhattan people to Brooklyn. Since Manhattan is more central and convenient to the tri-state area, I think a meeting might have to be there.

For the past meetings, we’ve met at the Russian Vodka Room which is a restaurant/bar. You wouldn’t get carded even if you were 12 years old.

As a matter of fact, an 18 year old friend and I went bar hopping in Brooklyn and Manhattan a few months ago and she wasn’t carded anywhere we went. A joy of the big city, if you’re into that.

For the record, the only places I would really object to are chain restaurants (like TGIF’s or the Hearland Brewery ).

Now, now, SaxFace, I am sure you didn’t mean to generalize about us New Jerseyans. I get out to Park Slope all the time.

But I agree that meeting in Manhattan would be a better idea. After all, the other Jersey folks might not be as sophisticated, well-traveled, and worldly as I am.

Let’s all get together in Staten Island! We could play touch football afterward!

I’m up for anywhere in Manhattan. Downtown’s better than uptown, just because, hey, I’m that kind of guy.

Uke

Just to let you all know, my status as a resident of New York State may be kaput by April 3rd, but I’m still working out the details.

But hey if you have the party after then, that’s OK too. Someone else can play the role of The Guy Who Doesn’t Understand A Single Cultural Reference.

Gypsy: Tom, I don’t get you.
Tom Servo: Nobody does. I’m the wind, baby.

I’m a Manhattanite, but I’d be psyched to meet in Park Slope (or anywhere else easily accessable by public transportation). I agree that an Brooklyn bar or resturant might be melllower and more conducive to “doping” than a Manhattan one, but I could be convinced otherwise.

I will, however, as Bean suggested, try to think of the right sort of spot on our fair island. For those of you who’ve done this before, what should we look for in a joint for this shindig.

So do I, but I’ll make an exception in this case… Oh wait, you weren’t talking about Manny, were you?

Well, being a Cali surfer boy, I’ll leave it up to all you city folk as to where we should go. Any place is fine for me, as long as they have vegan, no smoking or alcohol, the cornerstone is consecrated with pig’s blood and shorts, tank tops and flip flops are suitable attire. Can’t wait to meet the NY Dopers!

::ducking::

you NYC dopers are not getting my stash

Staten Island? Yay. A get together should ALWAYS smell like a famous dump. Ick.

Oh, what’s that? So now you say life sucks?
Well 99% of it’s what you make of it…
So if your life sucks, YOU suck!

Joe_Cool

I will make it my business to be there  Let me know when and where! I don’t go to Manhattan much anymore, so I don’t have any suggestions. Let me know what you guys decide

I told you not to be stupid, you moron.

Oh, you’ll recognize him immediately. He’ll be the one dressed like a 17-yr old cheerleader…

“Not everybody does it, but everybody should.”

Dem, i know you must be joking here!

Anyway, i can go if someone is willing to provide me airfare, lodging, money, and make up a really good excuse to my professors as to why I missed class. Anyone? No?..

Oh, good. Three to four hours hours of explaining “The joke is…”

Alpha, WHAT is this shit about leaving New York? You KNOW your powers fade when you cross the Hudson!

Oh, and UncleBeer said he’d be willing to drive to the next SDMB party. Manhattan’s, what, a mere twelve hours from Toledo via turnpikes?
