In Plain Sight 17 May 2009

I started this show during the writers’ strike. Mostly fun - the Russian chick getting a boob job for participating.

Tonight was heavy as an anvil. How the hell do you choose among saving your wife, your unborn child, or neither?

I haven’t seen last night’s ep yet, I always watch Breaking Bad first.

I know you meant emotionally heavy, but what is with the writers, can they get more heavy handed? In “A Stand-Up Triple,” the ep where the boy was taking care of his siblings, I think we could all see the parallel to Mary, we didn’t need to have it explicitly stated 2-3 times.

What irritates me the most is that the show seems to be well-written, it’s almost like a producer or a network exec feels the need to throw in some extra dialogue.

That being said, it’s still one of my favorite shows. I only caught about 1/2 of last season but I find myself really attached to these characters.

I’ve been watching it on and off for both seasons now. Sometimes I like it, sometimes I’m more “meh”. Last night, I liked.

It had a lot of good progress on the main character’s story arcs: Brandi gets to meet someone who is miles above her previous boyfriends by just being herself; Jinx (the mom) is slowly coming to terms that she’s an alcoholic (answering Peter honestly, dumping out Mary’s tequila); Mary coming to terms with her father’s criminal history.

And this episode was a West Wing mini-reunion of sorts - Mary McCormack having a scene with Josh Malina and many great interactions with Richard Schiff’s rabbi.

What did the rabbi mean at the end when he gave her his card, and said that he could find anyone? I think the implication was that he could find her father. But how did he know about him? And when her mother said she had to confess something, I thought it was something about her father’s disappearance.

Yeah, I think he meant her father too, but for the life of me I can’t figure out how he knew that her dad is missing.

I’m going to bump this since new episodes are coming back on march 31! Brush up on your old episodes and great ready

I wonder how much they changed the show. The shows creator, Ex Producer & writer, David Maples is gone. I hope they don’t turn this into another cookie cutter cop show.

Here’s a little info.

A pity about the mom, a big part of the show’s appeal to me has been Mary’s train-wreck family. The detective was pretty minor though.

I’m pretty comfortable with the shift. Mary and Marshall both return and I think the most emotional and interesting parts of the show were Mary and Co. dealing with the victims/witnesses and their stories - that’s all still going to be there

Yeah, I always thought the mother/sister thing was just filler to pad out the show because the Witness of the Week stories were too thin. Maybe they’ll focus on adding more meat to the main plot lines now.

Also on the plus side - Allison Janney and Donnie Wahlberg are gonna guest this season, so it’s going to, no doubt, be loaded with awesome storylines.
