In Praise of 'Ghosts' (British TV Series That Inspired The American One)

It is on the BBC iPlayer.

That’s only available in the UK, I assume? My understanding is that isn’t not available anywhere in the US at the moment.

Maybe you could use it with a VPN, I don’t know. My means of viewing media pay no attention to original source (and are verboten to discuss here).

You’re also supposed to tick a box which declares ‘I am a UK TV Licence payer’. SHAME ON YOU

That might be illegal, but I can tell you that my experience with BBC is that they detect VPN usage and block their content from it. :man_shrugging:

Since CBS is going to broadcast episodes of the Brit version starting in November, presumably (or hopefully, at least) it means they will show the episodes on Paramount+ soon after, as they do with the US version. Or of course, you can catch it on CBS if you don’t mind appointment TV.

Though in any case you’ll have to wait through showings of S.1-4, and that’s presuming CBS continues with the Brit Ghosts experiment through S.5, so several caveats.

When I Googled “ghosts uk paramount plus” the first (sponsored) result was “Ghosts (UK) - Watch on Paramount Plus”. When I followed the link I just get “this content isn’t available right now”, but the fact that they even bothered creating a URL for the UK version (note the the URL ends with “ghosts-uk”) seems like a positive sign that it will be available after it airs on CBS.

I’m fairly certain I read that somewhere in the last month. Paramount+ will have the UK Ghost episodes after they air. Not sure though if we will get season 5 this year. That was far from clear.

There’s a rumour of a Xmas special still to come.

I saw what you did there.

Only just spotted this! Fanny isn’t a century older, in fact, in their relative bios, Fanny dies after Heddy (She mentioned she had a ticket for the Titanic at some point). They are pretty much contemporary with Heddy slightly older. Fanny is in classic Edwardian attire (c.1910-20 ish), Heddy late 1800s.

(Explanation of above post: I chose ‘copy video URL at current time’ but it starts at the beginning, not at around the 3:00 mark as I intended, where Conan sings a bit of the old Arthur Godfrey ‘Yea-boo’ song. And of course by posting a video clip I can’t go back in and edit the post.)

Did this series just end with a thud? Like, zero finale of any kind. Just a regular episode?

I hope they get Xmas specials or decide to continue.

Do we now know how all our Ghosts died?

Note that I have not seen neither the fourth nor the fifth series of the original UK series, and I doubt I’m the only one, so please don’t spoil how it ends.

Me neither!

I was inspired to go and watch the BBC charity special (Red Nose Day) featuring Kylie - I’m not sure if this YouTube link will play across regions - the BBC might put a blocker on it.

There will be a Christmas episode, so it hasn’t ended yet. (There isn’t supposed to be another season.)

Yeah I definitely mis-judged the ages/eras of the two Stuffy Ladies of the Manor.

Does the British audience chuckle uncomfortably every time Fanny’s name is mentioned? I know it’s portrayed as a nickname for her actual name Stephanie, but clearly they’re going for laughs. Aren’t they?

I only recall one overt “fanny” joke( though I could have missed others) on S2 ep 1 - “The Grey Lady”.
Fanny is outside the house, unaware that a photographer is out there scanning the grounds for specters. Pat sees him getting closer to her and exclaims “Fanny’s exposed!”.
