In Praise of Jane Lynch

First took notice of her brilliance in “The 40 Year Old Virgin”; her comedic genius was confirmed in “A Mighty Wind” and “Best in Show”, but just about every time she’s on screen, Jane Lynch steals the scene. Anyone else a fan?

Yes! She’s even funny in “Two and a Half Men”.

I love her new commercial with that woman from Seinfield.

Uh oh. Unusually tall, good comedienne, unconventionally good looking.
I always get interested in her type, and it always ends the same way.

NTTAWWT, but is there even one out there who fits the pattern, but not the stereotype? I know Hollywood selects for stereotypes, but c’mon.

I love Jane Lynch. She can do no wrong and I’ll watch her in anything (making her, to me, the female equivalent of Chris Walken). I’d eat cocaine for breakfast, lunch and dinner with her. And whatever Judd Apatow’s done wrong, I have to give him props for great casting.

I love Jane Lynch. I remember really liking her in “Best in Show”, but even more so in “A Mighty Wind”. I thought she was great in “40 Year Old Virgin” as well.

If you are a fan, and want a good blast from the past, watch the Harrison Ford “The Fugitive”. She plays the doctor who helps him with the test samples. After seeing her in the Christopher Guest movies, I happened to watch “Fugitive”, and was blown away that it was her !

Ya can’t BS a BS’er. I love her and would have her babies.

She did a brilliant turn as the highly competitive sister of the Chief on Psych last season, and the casting was absolutely terrific. She and Kirsten Nelson even look like sisters.

But I too would watch her in anything. I watch that disgusting Healthy Choice ad she’s done with Julia Louis-Dreyfus eating like a pig, just to see Jane.

Next to Jane Curtain she’s the best female “straight man” in comedy…maybe better.

Stranger

Yep, I’m with everyone here. I wasn’t particularly interested in Role Models until I saw that Jane Lynch was in it. Paul Rudd AND Jane Lynch? (with a helping of Elizabeth Banks?) Ok, you got me. It was fun. Dumb but fun.

I hadn’t remembered that, but now I can picture her. Another bit of trivia about Fugitive casting: that was a then-unknown Julianne Moore who tried to stop the doctor at the hospital, when he saved the kid by writing the correct treatment on the chart.

And she’s currently in the criminally underwatched Starz show “Party Down” as a washed up actress working for a catering company. Hilarious.

I’ve been watching it. It’s funny but kind of sad to see those desperate characters working at a catering company (especially Adam Scott’s character, who was famous a few years prior for some fad commercial and now can’t live it down). I wonder if that’s how things really are in Los Angeles.

I liked her in “Best in Show,” but it was “A Mighty Wind” where I found her irresistably funny/sexy. Now I’m thrilled anytime I spot her.

According to the IMDb entry, she played “Mrs. Hammond” twice on Julia Louis-Dreyfus’ show The New Adventures of Old Christine (which I’ve never seen). That would seem to be a more pertinent link.

Or am I being whooshed?

I don’t know if you’re being whooshed, but perhaps you haven’t seen the Healthy Choice frozen food commercial featuring Julia Louis-Dreyfus and Jane Lynch. (Warning: the commercial features Julia Louis-Dreyfus eating with her mouth open, which is kind of gross.)

She played a recurring character in “Arrested Development”, as did many of the Christopher Guest repertory company. Also a small part on “Veronica Mars”.
