After some reading of the record, the decision of the staff is that vanilla will not be returning to the board. We wish her all the best, but feel it’s appropriate that her time here should end. She has been notified.
Our normal policy has been not to reveal information on why long-standing members are banned, out of respect for their privacy. This policy is currently under review. In vanilla’s case, the history is already public. You may read this record for yourself, as it includes multiple major warnings, publicly posted at the time. (There were also other minor infractions, but of not as much consequence and omitted here for considerations of space and bandwidth.) Note that all three cases involved the same infraction: namely, confusing our Message Boards with real life and dragging private matters into the public boards.
While we’re allowing you to see the record for yourself, please remember that this is ATMB. We ask you to moderate your language, this is not The Pit. Most of all, vanilla cannot come here to answer questions or argue any issues, so please refrain from engaging in such, and of course, personal attack or abusive comments are right out.
It’s a large thread and I wanted to link directly to the last post.
However, you can either click on the “Thread” hyperlink in the upper right hand corner (which will take you to the beginning of the thread) or go here:
Also, those other warnings go back a long time. Is there some kind of Naughty List that keeps track of all our fuck-ups on there? Is it a formal file? Informal? Is it stored on the board server or do individual moderators and such keep their own records of who they warned? Or do you just have a really good memory?
I don’t really have a beef with vanilla or with her banning, but I just wanted to say I think it’s a smart idea to post threads like this when old-timers are banned. I’m glad to see the old policy is “under review.” There’s going to be speculation and questions when something like this happens. Let’s just get it all out in the open.
