In Seattle, Tuesday night is trivia night -- the 2004 thread

I so sorry I didn’t make it.
I had a dental appt at 3:00PM, and I thought I’d be fine by 7:00, but I just woke up (7:45) and I’m still drooling. I look like I’ve had a stroke or I’ve been swimming at the shallow end of the gene pool. I didn’t want everyone’s first impression to be that I’m brain damaged. I have another dental appt next Tuesday too, but its an hour earlier, so I’ll try to make it . I’ll bring Fireman along too.

No problems at all. We were huge, and any more people would’ve required the outlay of another $5 for a team, so you saved us money!

Good times had on this end. Had a great time meeting dropzone and dropsib. I hope to see both again in the future.

One point short of a win, which is unfortunate; as a win would’ve been so much fun considering Li’l Miss “This Isn’t Trivia!” sitting at the next table. But it was not to be.

I’m curious, what sort of trivia is it? How does it work? Is it written? How long does it last? Can you give me a sample question or two? I’d hate to find out I’m clueless
We’re going to make every effort to be there next week.

Don’t worry, I’m often clueless and I haven’t been banned yet.

I have no idea how it begins, because I’m always late (and still, I haven’t been banned - the Seattle dopers are exceptionally nice people). But by the time I get there, someone has a stack of index cards, on which they’ve written the team name of the night. Somewhere inside the pub, someone reads off questions, some are easy, some are ridiculous…there’s usually a Simpsons question, there are often bizarre geography questions. If for some reason you happen to know international car registration sticker symbols you’re going to be adored by one and all. One team member writes down our answer for the questions on an index card, after 10 questions, the card is turned in, there’s a short break, and then it starts over again. At the end of 40 questions, there’s a short break, and the question reader announces the winner.

It’s usually over by 10, 10:30 occasionally?

We had a great time. While I’m back home my brother may be going back, if only for the cheap and good furrin beers. And we enjoyed meeting the Agueparents.

She was a bit of a pain. How anybody could claim that “What is Mrs Krabapple’s first name?” was “minutiae, not trivia” deserves a dopeslap.

All of the Seattle Dopers I met last week are extremely nice. I’ll probably have to move out there.

I’m actually going to be working tomorrow, so I don’t know that I’ll get to the boards during the day. Hence the early bump.

I’m in. I should be there by 7:00, maybe earlier.

picunurse, no need to be nervous. The first time I went to trivia night (years ago, now – ah, youth) I was a bit worried we’d have to reveal our ignorance loudly and publicly. But no. It’s all written down and the only people who mock you are fellow dopers who’ve all given their share of stupid answers. And it’s not like you, yourself, are responsible for coming up with an answer to each question. It’s a team effort down the line.

We should have the speedy guy as our quizmaster, which means it’ll be over by 10:00 and there won’t be a Simpsons question. But he does like geography.

I’m in, too. I’ll be pretty early, I think.

Early-morning change of plans–I’ve got to beg off. Sorry. I’ll see you all next week.

Except me.

Wait.

Oh, right. Never mind.

I’m pretty sure we’re in. Haven’t talked to Lady Cheek yet, but she’s made noises about it, so that generally indicates a ‘yes.’

I have to make noises indicating ‘no’ for this week. Good luck to the team(s).

Nobody’s probably reading at this late hour, but me = no. Working late on payroll tonight.

Spear Britney on Elvis’s petard! Or something.

Ok, not to sound like a lame-o but does anyboy know of any trivia nights on the East Side?

After working all day, the thought of fighting bridge traffic and then paying to park (or find parking) then having to drive all the way back to Sammamish doesn’t delight me.

I don’t know of any trivia on the Eastside (but if there’s an English or Irish pub there, your chances are good), but if you joined us you wouldn’t be the only Eastsider among us. So I guess it’s possible, if not the easiest choice trafficwise.

As for tonight, I’ll be there. Anyone else?

I’ll be there. I’ll probably come very early, unless I can find a better way to waste time than sitting in a pub trying to occupy 6-8 seats at once. Still, it’s better than sitting at work waiting for the air conditioning units to blow themselves up.

Will I be there tonight?

—shakes magic 8-ball—

“Chances are good.”

Chances are that I cannot make it. Wanted to check in to say that the time that I did make it was fun and I liked meeting some of you folks, but of late Tuesdays have been horrible for me schedule wise. I will be checking back in as time allows.

We’re in, probably somewhat early.

Binarydrone, come whenever you can. It’s fun having you around, but if you can’t make it, you can’t make it. Look forward to seeing you the next time out!

From the bowels of the Seattle Central Library, I resurrect this thread to proclaim one thing:

I will be there tonight, unless no one else is planning on showing up.

I now return to my Internetless workday.

Put me down for a definate maybe.
I am trying to hook up with some old friends that just had a baby. So newborn gets first dibs. Stay tuned

Sorry, I must bow out this week.
