Yes, they can. I like to try to figure them out myself, but if they are really tricky, I like to have the walkthrough available… just in case. I think the story is easier to follow when you aren’t pulling your hair out trying to figure out the puzzles.
I had that too until I realized I had to restart the computer since I was prompted to download a new version of Flash. Reboot.

You have to take everything from the skeleton before you can take the blanket. Look UNDER the skeleton’s left hand.
I had to use the walkthrough to figure out how to open the diary (I hate “spot the one odd pixel” type puzzels). And I wouldn’t have found the CD without the walkthru, either.
You wouldn’t be talking about ringing that yellow bell next to the teacup, would you? And if so, when you say “more than once” you wouldn’t mean “about a trillion times,” would you?

SOME SPOILERS…
Nevermind about my last post, BTW. I figured out that you need to put some stuff down near the bell, THEN ring it. But I’m missing one of the things. I have the CD in the case, and the beer can. Don’t tell me what to do though. Not yet.
Sings “C’mon baby light my fire” Sure does stink to not be able to light upon the right solution, doesn’t it? Sometimes, though, distate pays off. 
You won’t have much of a clue what I’m talking about, yet. Others probably do though, and think I’m being a mean tease. I say, I’m not being mean, but I’m not handing him the solution either, cause he doesn’t want it.
Keeping what Lynn said in mind, dig through my words, and experiment with various combinations of items. (Fire is applied to more than one thing to get at the solution.) You should find the solution. (Your inventory should be full up btw)
Erm, and sometimes patience needs to be used, and an action repeated with items to get at the solution. Posting this, with the thought that people may still be stuck.
I can’t get the lighter, god-flippin-damn it! I had everything else and went through the walk-through to see wtf was wrong, grrrr!
Do you know where the lighter is found? If so, what did you collect from the same place? Check your inventory and then try again.
Woah. Just managed to complete this. Difficult is an understatement. Had to resort to pen and paper at one point.
You have to click just right to be able to uncover the lighter. You can’t lift what you need unless you click the edge of a shadow on the item you need to lift. (At least, that’s what happened to me.)
I am trying to get the ecard that the walkthrough says is on the lamp, but I can’t see it. Random clicking doesn’t produce it, either. Any hints for that?
Never mind - I got it.
How? It’s the only piece I’m missing, and it’s making me crazy!
