In the Dark -- CW TV show

I started watching this on the recommendation of a friend – online at first (it was on opposite The Orville) and now as it airs.

Murphy is blind and has a fuck-it-all attitude toward life. But when she finds her friend’s corpse in the street (which promptly disappears), she sets out to find out what happened to him.

The mystery slowly unravels, but the real strength of the show is its characters. Murphy reminds me of House in personality – acerbic and willing to do anything to get what she wants. But she’s also funny and quite likeable; a lot of it comes from a dislike of being seen as weak or a lesser person because of her blindness.

There are also some intriguing relationships between her and her friends. Most interesting is her and Jess, her roommate, and with Max, a man who – to her dismay – she starts to have feelings for (Murphy is definitely a one-night-stand woman). There are also secrets that tie in with Tyson’s disappearance.

At this point, we’re starting to see some hints as to where the story is going and it’s a fascinating journey.

You can stream the season so far on the CW website.

It’s yet another CW show I’ve found better than the previews made it out to be. Still not sure if it might not have worked better as a movie or miniseries, but I’ll at least finish out the rest of this season. Next season (already renewed, I believe) will depend on what else is on in the same timeslot.
