I can’t disagree too much with the OP, but my nominee would be Sam Stone. He put in a whole lot more time and nearly as much partisan zeal selling the Bush economic program.
With all due respect, it’s virtually impossible to be wrong when all you do is ask questions, while stubbornly avoiding making declarative statements.
What I’m saying is, ralph124c has a unique gift.
See, then I just can’t endorse the pitting. I’ve only got enough hate boner to go around for people who are obviously intelligent and well-informed but still choose to be assholes. The people who were not just Romney voters - there’s plenty of fine fellas in that category - but who were willfully defiant of all pre-election indicators are lacking in either smarts or knowledge, and then it just becomes a pitying.
And he’s doing a great job. Whatever the Democrats are paying him, it isn’t enough.
As far as I can tell he still thinks Romney is going to win and those of us who think the election’s over and Obama won are just deluding ourselves.
I don’t know if he’s more often wrong than anyone else here, but he certainly matches Starving Artist for blind, reflexive partisan hackery. I’ll grant he’s a bit less verbose, which makes him marginally less obnoxious.
This utterly unsupported assertion from a current rapidly-turning-into-a-train-wreck thread in GD may be the quintessential adaher post:
Hey, at least it’s brief and to the point.
Sam Stone does make some intelligent comments and shows signs of broader interest and actual edumacation. Admittedly, when he gets going on the blnkered Randian glibertarianism, the airless pinnacle of his eloquent, dogmatic myopia is majestic in its emeticity. By contrast, adaher’s stupidity is bland, tedious and uninteresting.
And then there was handy.
And then there wasn’t.
I would point out that even when showing great education and knowledge more often than not I saw that his tactic was to make a great post full of good information and suddenly there was huge bit of certifiable bullshit that was embedded in the post. IMHO that was the idea, make it sound very logical and reasonable and hope that the misleading or false conservative FUD be swallowed with the other stuff.
August 31st’s entry in 30 Days to Increase Your Word Power.
In all fairness, after the first debate I was convinced Romney was going to win. I have never been so happy to be wrong in my life.
Clothahump is pretty amazingly wrong.
But he does post in non political threads, and isn’t always wrong there.
I envision Sam Stone’s mind as a majestic cathedral with tall stained-glass windows, a golden nave, polished teak pews, festooned golden trim highlighted by a stunning fan-vaulted ceiling and a solid marble floor decorated with gleaming brass spittoons. The vast, echoing emptiness of it emphasized by the near absolute dearth of parishioners. Oh, and every time I see his name, it reminds me of that song by John Prine, the one that goes,
*Sam Stone was alone
When he popped his last balloon
Climbing walls while sitting in a chair
He played his last request
In a room that smelled like death
With an overdose hanging in the air
There’s a hole in daddy’s arm where the money goes
Jesus died for nothing, I suppose …*
adaher, by contrast, is an adobe hut melting away in the afternoon rain.
I’m unsure that makes a lot of sense to me. If Sam Stone’s modus operandi was to write large blocks of reasonable prose, full of good information and cogent argument, only to stuff bullshit into the middle — then presumably he could tell the difference between good discussion and bad. If he could discern bullshit, then why push it at all?
More likely he tried to make very long and detailed arguments, with specific parts of which you disagreed. He may have been wrong — terribly wrong, I dunno, no judgment from me here — but people seem to enjoy quickly traveling from “I disagree with him!” to “He’s a bad and intellectually dishonest person!”.
Comparing Sam Stone (or Bricker, say) with adaher or ralph124c? Nothing could could more strongly indicate that the arguer may wish to check his own degree of partisanship.
When it comes to sheer weapons grade wrongness, even **adaher **would run screaming from the iron-clad idiocy that is curlcoat.
Kanicbird?
What about Susannan or however you spelled it? She once tried to claim that it was illegal for women to wear pants until the late 70s or some other bullshit.
I dunno about all the history of the SDMB, we used to have december and Razorsharp. But adaher is the current undisputed lineal championship title-holder of wrong.
ralph124c doesn’t bother me anymore. It used to drive me nuts reading his posts; he knows just enough to be dangerous. A fact here, a fact there, and a lot of blinding wtf in between the two. Then one day it occurred to me that a lot of interesting, intelligent discussion often winds up happening in threads he starts even though the question in the OP makes you want to /facepalm.
No, it was not partisanship that told me that, but one very ugly example was when IIRC he did make a list of items about scientific items leftists get wrong. And in the middle of it there was once again the anti-environmentalist point of accusing environmentalists and liberals of allowing so many deaths caused by Malaria, ‘because DDT was banned thanks to them’.
Well, the reality was that that item has been recycled many times among conservatives up to the point of being the gospel truth for them, the problem is that it was bollocks.
And that ugliness was compounded by the fact that Sam never corrected that, even when told about it. For all I know he will continue like many conservatives to plant that item elsewhere, and if you only think a little about it, that was even worse than poisoning the well, it was a big lie that is made to convince many on the fence to think that anything is justified, even violence, to stop environmentalists because don’t you know? They are mass murderers.
