At last! My clocks are whole again! I don’t change the time to standard. Standard only lasts five months, and daylight seven, so I leave the time on what is correct the most and (mostly) remember to subtract an hour. I do change the alarm clock, which means I also have to change the coffeepot, but that’s it.
Idea! Perhaps we right-thinking people could get together and resist this idiocy. You know, “if three people do it, they’ll think it’s a movement…”
HOUR TO THE PEOPLE!
I wish they would just switch it one half hour then leave it alone. Everybody… COMPROMISE!!
I just gotta say that I’m pretty cool with it this year. I work third shift, so I worked an hour less than normal last night.
Sweet.
/very fortunately salaried
Wait, I thought I saw a sign when I was going into Arizona that said “You are now entering Arizona, please set your clocks…”
No, my bad. It was “back 20 years .”
<whistles to self.>
WHAT?
Hey, it hadda be said…
Bad enough I usually sleep till 11 o’clock in the morning, this morning I got up an hour early, groggy, and it was still almost friggin’ noon. And that’s after going to bed earlier than usual (3 AM cuz there was no 2).
I used to live in Arizona. Shouldn’t have left. All you Arizona Dopers count yourselves lucky. It was especially noticeable because I left in the summer and all of a sudden it was staying light till 9:30 PM.
Meanwhile, DST adds yet another bug in an already messy astronomy program I have to fix. Damn thing won’t switch at 2AM; it waits till the evening hours.
Fuck Daylight Saving Time and the boat it rode in on.
You’re all wrong. I love daylight savings time. I don’t know how you all got to be so wrong, but it pains me to see it. My heart goes out to all of you poor, misinformed souls.
I live in Saskatchewan, too, but I work in Alberta (I am close enough, only a 20 minute drive). All winter I got to sleep in an extra hour, but damn DST took my hour away.
Oh well, at least I still get to pay about 500 times less for car insurance
.
Upon review, my post might be interpreted as me being happy with a 12 - 12 sleep schedule. Let me clarify: I’m trying to work her back to more normal baby hours, and DST is not helping!
As a night owl, I have an awful time waking up in the morning. Losing an hour of sunlight just it makes it that much worse, dammit!
What makes me sad is that my computer and VCR say it’s 8:45, but my TV says it’s 7:45 and is playing shows accordingly. Tonight I’ll get Home Movies at 10 instead of 11, and the FOX news at 9 instead of 10.
IOW, according to Adelphia, we’re on MST time now. It’s freaking me out and I hate it.
Daylight Saving Time is lovely…
It’s Standard Time that sucks. It’s relationship to sunlight (so far as I’ve been able to tell) is questionable at best - it’s inconvenient, it screws with my internal clock… it should go.
Some August, someone needs to decide to just keep saving daylight throughout the year and never bother to fall back.
Your cat’s the Slayer? Whoa. I guess you don’t have to worry about vampire mice taking advantage of that extra hour of darkness in the mornings.
Try living in Indiana. 76 of 92 counties are on DST, 4 are not. After living here for a total of 7 years, my parents STILL have no idea what time it is here. Tech companies refuse to set up camp here because of software changes they’d have to make. The reason? The farming lobby claims something about the cows getting confused and “tradition”. Bullshit. DST may suck donkey ass, but the least we could do is keep step with the rest of the world (Arizona and Hawaii notwithstanding).
That’s some bad subtraction there, huh?
I’d love it if all of Indiana was on the same time zone… EST! I love not changing my clocks and having to worry about whether to ‘spring forward’ or ‘fall back’! Having lived in Illinois for many years and then moving to Indiana… this is definitely a perk IMHO. YMMV!
I hate Daylight Saving Time! If some people want to take advantage of the sun’s coming up earlier, why can’t they just get up earlier and leave the rest of us alone?
Haha…I was kind of in the same boat. I had no idea DST started yesterday, since every clock in the house, the computers, the cable box, my cellphone/alarm clock, set themselves.
I found out about 7:00 Sunday night, and then got bummed out because I lost an hour.
Ha, us lucky southern hemisphere folks get the “good” daylight saving which meant I could lounge in bed an hour longer.
Your cats should be sleeping later than usual. At least my dogs are.
It was great yesterday. Normally they’re driving me nuts to go out with about 25 laps left in the NASCAR race. Yesterday, they were snoozing like good boys.
I like DST. Come on folks – you get off work at 5:00, get the paper, make yourself a cocktail, sit outside. Its the best. Now if only it would get above 25 degrees in Baltimore I could actually do that.
I also like how it just fucks everyone’s shit up a couple times per year. Keeps people on their toes.
And then, when we go back to shitty-ass standard time, they cushion the blow by letting us have a little extra sleep, “get ready folks, you’re going to wake up and drive to work in the dark and when you get off work, it’s going to be dark again. But here’s an extra hour to sooth you.”
